Default 1986 survivor dash issue

My 1986 XLT looks great inside and out except for the dash. The tan dash has darkened to almost a chocolate color from the sun and neglect.

The surface is rough to the touch and is driving me crazy. I've used several cleaning products (Purple power, Tuff stuff, and even "Goo gone" with little to no effect.

I'm almost to the point of breaking out the sand paper!

Any suggestions?

I guess if I was you, with that truck, I would start with a couple of qualified auto upholsters and see what they had to offer. There is several discussion posts on here about painting interiors. I'm not experienced in removing the pad, but maybe finding a better one in a junkyard or auto flea market. That's my thoughts on it.Good Luck!

Thanks for the feedback. I'm considering having a pro do it because the rest of the interior is almost factory perfect. No matter how good a dye job I do it's gonna stand out.

Would be better off buying a replacement dash pad.
