Default Cleaning Console Armrest?

Does anyone have any ideas on how to thoroughly clean a grimy center console armrest (cloth)?

I picked up an explorer short center console to put in my 97 Ranger regular cab, and the only thing I don't love about it is how gross the top of the armrest is. Everything else is going to clean up nicely, once I figure out how I'm going to mount it to the floor.

Any way to save it by cleaning?

It's actually not as bad as the picture makes it look. Or maybe it is.

a lot of people swear by "the green machine". i would try a small steam cleaner type machine. if that doesn't work, i would recover in vinyl.

If its just the cloth/carpet one...i used to just clean mine with soap and hot water....with a rag...then take the shopvac to it.
That always cleaned mine up well.

Use this on my seats and it works real good with getting oil out. Cost about $10 from walmart.

After cleaning my seats and arm rest I follow up with Scotch Guard. It has kept the seats from getting as dirty. Highly suggest doing the scotch guard.

Any good upholstery cleaner should clean it up if the grime is deep try a few times if it doesn't come off all the way there are covers for them

take it off of the console and scrub it with dish soap and rug cleaner/spot remover if you have it. really don't need to go out and buy anything, but if its really bad just hit it with the pressure washer at the car wash.

Thanks for the recommendation STL, the Tuff Stuff worked fantastic to clean up my center console armrest. It's a little hard to tell from the original picture just how bad it really was, but trust me, it was oily and gross. After using Tuff Stuff though, it look really really nice again. I still might go back at some point and use a steam cleaner on the arm rest, and the rest of the interior, but Tuff Stuff did a great job on its own too. Literally, just sprayed it on and let it sit for about 30-45 seconds and scrubbed/wiped it off. Did that about 5 times total, and it's like a completely different armrest now. Doesn't seem to have affected the color any either.
