Default How to Clean Plastic Chrome (my way, before & after).

Images below. On plastic chrome parts on a Ranger, like my 2002 XLT. I give the parts a wash, which really don't remove anything. Left with a tire with a ton of water spots built up, and brake dust. Afterwards I use chrome/metal polish on these plastic chrome parts to bring back the shine. Tried other products, however they wont bite and remove hard water spots and brake dust that were on my rim covers. Took about 90minutes per rim, 60minutes of that would be working the metal polish with mirco-fiber rags.

I would avoid using this on a newer Ranger (with the huge chrome grilles) . I would try more elbow grease of just a normal cleaning product then metal polish, as it will over time remove the coating, and mark it up.

This is normally for older Rangers, not to bring it to like new, but to make it look alot better then before.

Follow up with some wax, and your done.

Did you guys not read? This is how I cleaned my plastic chrome parts on my truck, when they are really dirty from years of crap and hard water spots. I don't have a hard water problem in my area, but for some reason my wheels will build up water spots that are almost impossible to remove, going to say it's the plastic chrome on the wheels that cause this problem.

I thought it would be helpful for others who have older rangers to know how to bring the shine back, since plastic chrome is unusual, and members might not know how to clean this finish.

Metal Polish is like rubbing compound, so it will remove layers of this plastic chrome finish, therefore you shouldn't do this offen since it could remove the plastic chrome finish after repeated use. It's a very aggressive way to clean this, whichever is why I only recommend to do this on older rangers, who might have this buildup of crap to remove.

In other worlds, this is a once use fix to bring the shine back, don't use it again (which you shouldn't need to) if you keep it up after using metal polish. Newer Rangers shouldn't really need to do this since the build up won't be as bad as my 11year old ranger. I will say I've done this twice to my ranger, and so far the coating hasn't shown damage. But I advise people to do this at their own risk, it's for the person to decide fit they need a heavy duty cleaning product like this to use, on something it wasn't exactly designed for.
