Which wire did you ground coming off the brake controller? Was it the white one? Or was it the black one?

Looks to me like you POSSIBLY got those 2 wires mixed up.

White is ground, black is constant 12 volt power, blue is the output wire that goes to your 7 way on the back of the truck to power the brakes, and the red wire is the input from the cold side of the brake switch.

Well, now that I said that....

You do have a 7 way on the back of the truck, right? A picture of the connector will help here.

Ok, how did you connect the red wire to the brake switch? It's normal for it to backfeed to that wire. If you use the manual override on the controller, yep, you guessed it, your brake lights on the truck will come on even without stepping on the pedal.

I don't think I'd be checking anything out until you figure out why you melted wires.

x2

Might want to disconnect your battery overnight just to "be safe"...it's never good to leave wiring issues unattended IMO.

I think you need to trace out each wire you've connected onto & verify 'why'.

Hard to see what all is going on in those pictures though...

What color wires did you attach to what? AKA: Wire 'x' from the truck was attached to wire 'x' from the controller. The full list.

Did you verify things with a test light and/or DMM before attaching?
Did all those other wires in that plug match with the information provided?
How did you physically tap into the wire (tape, crimp, solder etc.)?

----------

I've asked a brake controller "guru" to check this thread out....

I can help with the wiring schematics for the truck - but I/we need feedback & info on the specific item itself & how you wired it.

Just need the wiring digram that I connected it to. Just to see what that one melted wire does or go to.

I'm not 100% sure on a model year 2008 - but in the past....

Power comes 'in' on a violet/red wire and when the pedal is pressed is "exits" via the brown-green wire.

Under the normal position (non-pressed) - the ground wire is a black/yellow wire.

Check that orange colored connector in your picture background. Is it a 5-wire connector? If so, check pin #4 - to see if it's a brown w/ green strip wire.

Connector #C278:
Pin #1 = Blue w/ Red = Fuse #19.
Pin #2 = Violet w/ White = Brake On/Off (Normally Open).
Pin #3 = Violet w/ Red = Fuse #32.
Pin #4 = Brown w/ Green = Brake On/Off (Normally Closed). <--------------
Pin #5 = Black w/ Yellow = Ground Seat Bracket Rear Left.

If the colors all match...check to see if voltage occurs only when the pedal is depressed on that brown w/ green striped wire. If so..that's should be what you're after.

Photobucket is putting up a fight with me at the moment - otherwise I would just post the wiring diagram (all I have access to is a 2006 though) - but it "might" be the same.

I'll try posting my information once I'm home.

Yeah, I believe you can snag it at the "orange connector" (#C278): Shoot to 11:22ish of this video:

Can get a diagram of that connector. Thanks
