Default Work Experience Canada 2014

Hi there,

i guess some People recognized that i live in Germany. After studiing my wife an i thought about to emigrate to Canada. Now 5 Years later im good in Business and have a good job but still dont forget the idea about Canada. So my wife an i decided to try to get a ticket for the Work and Travel Visa 2014. (1Year Visa with work permit)

Our idea is to get expierence in the canadian life for 1 Year, then we can better decide if it is an opinion for us to stay there or go back to Germany.

I know there are a lot of differences in working, but i just wanna ask if you can give me some idea what i have to look for.

I work in the medical technology (Opthalmology) and i am the Head of Production for a small Company. I am conform in Engineering, Production, ERP Systems, Regulatory Affairs (basic) of medical products.
I am leader of a team about 5 Members.

Which part of Canada is generelly good for medical devices? (only english parts, i dont speak french)
In the moment we try to locate at Ontario, so the next Questions are about the region Ontario.

How much Taxes do u have to pay? (gross/net)
How high are the basic living costs (i.e. how much money must i earn to survive, how high is the median income per anno?)
Which insurence do i need (health, working, etc.) which are not basics.
How much hours do u work normally (paid/unpaid)
How much holiday do u have normally per Anno?

I know these Questions are wide and undefined but i need a starting point, i guess it is better to ask locals than any statistics.

When i got the big picture, i will verify specific questions.

hope to get some starting informations here

Damn good Questions
I guess i could like hockey, never visit any game, but it seems to be funny

Beer.... hm i dont drink beer....
Vodka and Jaegermeister are my beer, so i can live with Molson Dry as good with any other beer as long as you have Vodka

Ontario would be your best bet, honestly it all depend on where you are living, Toronto obviously would be more expensive than say London or Ottawa, I live in central Ontario, basically within a 1-2 hour drive of the major hospitals,

Depends on where in Canada you plan to live. $40K a year each here in the Maritimes is comfortably in the middle class, or starving in Toronto or Calgary, or in on the streets in Vancouver. My home in Riverview, on a double lot, raised ranch was $80K when I bought it. The same thing near my father-in-law's village west of Montreal started in the $250k range. The cost of living varies widely accross the country. You need to determine where you're headed first, then research the cost of living in that area.

hm i have no idea where to settle down first
Im planning near to Toronto but it is not fixed jet. I dont like the city life, but a bigger city should be near (next 10 miles) so suburban would be great. Depends on where i will find a job.
So my actual radius is 50 miles round Toronto, i know even this small part has big difference.

Hey,

does anybody know how to write a canadian curriculum vitae?
I just mentioned that these are totally different from my normal CV´s in Germany

If someone have any experience with CV and 10 Minutes time, i could send him the Cv´s from me and my wife and would be glad if he could tell me if it is ok or if i did a big mistake.

Thank you

If you don't want to live in a big city, I would suggest Ottawa over Toronto. I have lived in both, and am now back in the Maritimes again. I am biased and call the East Coast the best kept secret in the country. I have lived in every province.

Ottawa, is the Capital city of Canada. While it is a big city, it does not feel like one, and you can drive 20 minutes and be 'out' of the city in farm land area. You have to drive pretty far out of Toronto to get 'out' of the city.

Traffic wise, Ottawa is better than Toronto as well, not as much congestion. Speed limits here on highways are capped at 110Km/h. The main east/west highway in Ottawa is a bit slow when the Senators have a home game, but nothing too crazy.

Personally, I found Ottawa to be a 'cleaner' city than Toronto, less industrial polluters, and some pretty large green space parks. Ottawa tends to have a lot more white collar work, than Toronto, but to be honest, if you are out of work in Canada, it is by choice.

I found Ottawa to be cheaper to live in than I did Toronto. I owned a house there (Ottawa) for an average of $1800 a month (mortgage, condo fees, and utilities).

Toronto has the sometimes deserved, sometimes not; designation of being the center of the Universe.

As for your CV or Resume, I am sure what you have is adequate. Most employers only gloss over them anyways. You need to hook them on the first page, or it often goes into pile "B". If you are sending out your CV/Resume, I strongly suggest you lock down your FaceBook. It is common practice here for employers to "Google" you or FaceBook creep you. Having a picture of you driving the porcelain bus or barking at the ants would probably not help you.

Only Quebec is French Only, while there are many that are bilingual, and will speak to you in English, you will find it much easier in other provinces.

Best of luck.
