I really like the head unit in my '00 Ranger XLT but the speakers are lacking. I am hard of hearing and the stock speakers sound very 'muddled' to me as I need crisp highs. Does anyone have any recommendations? I am on a budget and will not be changing the head unit. If any of you have some thoughts/recommendations on this I would be grateful.

You need sensitive speakers for the low power of the stock headunit or any headunit-only application. Entry level Infinity have the highest, brightest tweeters and are louder because they are 3 ohm instead of 4 ohm. Entry level Pioneers will beat them on mid-bass tho. Co-axials (2-way) have the best tweeters.

Great! Thank you very much for your help. I will go from here and map out a set for my truck. Thank you...it is a bit tough finding good speakers when you have moderate hearing loss.

Those are examples of what I think will work well with your hearing problems. You can probably find them cheaper somewhere else, but with far less customer service.
