Default Trouble with Speaker Upgrade

I have recently replaced the front two factory speakers in a 2005 Ford Ranger. It's the edge model and does not have the tremor package. I replaced the factory speakers with Pioneer TS-A6885R 6" x 8" 4-Way TS Series speakers. To wire them, I cut off the attachment on the end of the Ford Ranger's wire and twisted the wires of the new speakers around the corresponding wires in the Ranger. I put tape around each set of connected wires to keep the system from short circuiting. I am still using the factory stereo. The problem is that these speakers sound very tiny, certain frequencies are missed, and others are distorted. They are also pretty soft even at full volume. These speakers got great reviews though and everyone raved about how they were a huge ulgeade from the factory speakers. The factory speakers sounded better than these currently do. If anyone has done a similar upgrade or has ideas about how to improve the sound quality I would greatly appreciate the help. Thanks!

Yes, could be improper polarity.

----------

Why did you not get these -

See the part that says RMS watts 5-60 ? -

http://www.crutchfield.com/p_130TSA6...=T#details-tab

14 watts RMS from your headunit just don't cut it, especially when the speakers need at least 5 watts to work properly, which is at least half volume on your stock headunit. Replacement speakers to work well with stock headunits will have RMS wattage specs like 2-20 or 2-30 and sensitivity rating more than 90 db.

Well it sure simplifies returning the truck to stock when trading in/selling/etc. ! Myself, I would be installing a new headunit, amp, speakers, and running new quality speaker wire, but he is only doing a speaker replacement.

I don't buy the little plug adapters, but why cut the factory plug right off?
Just strip the insulation an inch up from the plug and solder you speaker wires on. Secure, simple, and you can always return your truck to factory condition.

first check polarity if one speaher is wired wrong it will sound funky.

at a minimum use butt crimp connectors for the wiring if you don't use plug-in adapters. twisting and tape is not a secure connection that can rob power..

the head unit may not be powerful enough to drive the speakers too.
