hello...i am new to the site...i encountered my first problem in 3 1/2 years with my ranger today...while driving to work...which is about an hour ride each way...my radio stopped working...it was powered up and recieving signal...but had no soudn coming out of my speakers...on my way home tonight my radio was kicking on and off as i depressed my clutch pedal...when i pushed down the sound would come on...let up on it the sound would come off...when i got home...i pulled the unit out and didn't notice anything shorting...however...the radio sound will work in the key on position, but once i start the vehicle, nothing...any suggestions on this as i have never had anything like this before...

that sounds like a short in the ignition switch in the steering column, the actual switch, not the key carriage. Either that or a pinched wire that your clutch has hit. Hope this helps

thanks for the reply...i checked for wires being pinched by the pedal and did not see anything...does make sense though...i though it was the clutch safety switch...but that does work in conjunction with the ignition switch...i suppose i'll have to pull the steering column apart to check ...thanks again...i'll let you konw how i made out...

so i went ahead and replaced the factory radio with another deck that i had...so far so good...if something starts happening with this radio, then i will know its something wrong with the wiring in the truck...if it keeps working then i will go ahead and start playing with wiring...i figured it was easier to just put another deck in then pull apart the column and start chasing wires...thanks again guys..
