Back-Up Camera
Headunit is a Pioneer AVH-P4300. Bought a camera off Ebay, ran my video cable, tapped into the pos/neg on my reverse light on the drivers side, put the truck in reverse annnnnnd...nothing. Wires for the camera get super hot and the other reverse light dims really bad. What should I do? Help me out so I can see at night. 5% sucks sometimes.

Re: Back-Up Camera
No shorts anywhere. Don't know where/what size relay to install.

Re: Back-Up Camera
Were there instructions on how to connect the camera?
Use a relay as the switch to turn on the camera just like you do with lights on the bumper. The relay takes the signal from the backup wire and then supplys power from a seperate wire so you don't introduce any feedback or excess voltage into your backup lights.
OR check with a local shop on the cost of installation. Because if they screw up and burn wires they are on the hook for replacing the wires damaged.

Re: Back-Up Camera
Yea my truck will never be taken to a shop for anything. And all you need to do is hook it up to a 12v source and hook up the video cable.

I'm planning on doing the same thing and no mention of a relay in the instructions but I am not tapping into the back-up lights, I am going to use a 12v source under the dash with a switch to turn the camera off and on in case I want to see what's going on behind me on the Interstate...
Here is a good write up how-to that is not closed if you need to ask a question...

I really didn't want the distance lines obstructing my view either and I don't believe this camera has them

Yes it's a name that has been around for a long time but probably still made in China...It arrived yesterday and has a metal housing and has some weight to it...I have 2 more orders I'm waiting on then will try it out soon...I have 2 friends with car lifts ...

Re: Back-Up Camera
I'm looking for one that doesn't have those dumb lines in it. I just want it to hook up to trailer easier

Re: Back-Up Camera
Jensen is usually synonymous with cheap/overrated/fleamarket. The brand name does not have a reputation for quality.
