Problems with stock CD Player
Hey guys, I'm new here but I have a problem I was hoping to get some help with.
I have a 2002 Ranger, with a stock 6-disc CD changer, the problem I have is that I tried to eject one of the CD's but it didn't come out. The door opened, and the CD was brought to the "top" so it is aligned with the door, and looks like it is ready to come out, but it just sits in there.
Being that I am a musician, and the ability to listen to music when I drive is fairly important to me, this is really bothering me.
The Door or Opening that the CD's go in and out from is too thin to insert something that could grab the CD to pull it out. And I don't want to put something sharp in there to "scrape" the CD out, cause I don't want to scratch it.
Do you guys have any ideas what i could do to get this fixed?
Perhaps take the dash console apart?
Should I go to a mobile audio place? I would rather not spend money to fix something so simple, I would like to do it myself.
PLEASE help!
Thanks for reading

Hhmm, 12 views, and no replies. Is this not the place to ask this question?
Am I asking in the wrong section?
Or should I seek help at a place that specializes in car audio?

It seems simple, but since it is not ejecting itself out it needs to be dissasembled completely more than likely. My Dad's Focus went through about 5 radios because of this, so he just doesn't use the CD player anymore. I have had so many bad experiences with multi disc players. I swap out to better HUs in all my cars/trucks now. More features as well as better sound.

Thanks RangerJustin, and that is what I plan to do. We plan to buy a new car in the near future and planning on selling the ranger, or trading it in.
For the new car I want to be able to connect my iPod, or get a HD in it, so I don't have to deal with CD's
But since Im going to be using my Ranger till then I was hoping to get it fixed.
I'll probably take it to an audio shop, and see if they can help me or give me pointers on what to do.
Thanks for the reply

I had the same problem with mine, it happens to 80% of the 6 discs. You have to take it apart and fix the fallen tray, its not hard to do.

Have you already pulled the unit out? It has a special tool that allows you to push the clips to pull the whole thing out of the compartment....didn't know if you were aware of that. From what I've been able to find online, it costs about $80 to send it in and get it fixed and sent back to you.
IMO...chuck the thing. Take it apart if you must to get your CD out of it, but get yourself just a standard CD player and a Monster cable so you can just play everything from your mp3 player and say goodbye to CD's for the most part. You can find a Monster cable at best buy. It just plugs into the AUX jack on the head unit, and plugs into the sound jack on anything...phone...mp3...computer...yeah

wow, thanks guys!
yeah I'll research getting that tool to take it out (YlwStrk2001 - do you happen to know what that tool is called?), and see if I can work at it to at least get my CD's out. I'm fairly Tech/Electronics savvy, so I don't think that will be a problem. It's the just getting the thing out that I haven't ever done before. I anticipate it will be relatively easy for me, once I get the unit out.
I'll look into getting a new unit, and an option to have an MP3 player to hook up to it. That will also help me when I go to sell it.
RangerJustin, when I price the units I'll need to put in, I'll let you know if I decide it would be cheaper to get it from you. BTW, the one you have, will it be compatible with the interior from 2002?
Thanks a LOT guys for the help, this has really been bothering me for the past couple days.

Juts a quick google, Ford Radio Removal Tools OTC7575
And all the HUs from sometime in the 90s to present are interchangeable, except maybe the tremor system...

RangerJustin is on point with the removal tool. If you're in a hurry though, see if the guys at a local audio shop will let you borrow theirs, or check with the auto bay at Best Buy (Yeah, I should be a spokeswoman for them), the guys in there are usually really helpful.
Many head units now are equipped with the wiring to connect to an Ipod and you can control the Ipod with the head unit controls. Those are a little more pricey of course, but if you're into the Ipod deal it could really work for you. If not, and you want to be able to use any kind of mp3, look into the Monster cable. It won't allow you to control the mp3 from the HU but you still get the freedom to hook up other stuff if you want.
Also, when looking into changing out the HU, most aftermarket units will fit, you just need to get the wiring harness and mounting bay for it...can't think of the right term for the compartment the unit sits in. Basically, I got an aftermarket Jensen with a DVD player/flip up screen, and it fit perfectly in a compartment that is made for my gen.
Good luck with getting this fixed and post up any other questions you might have, we'll all work together and get ya taken care of

You don't need a special tool, just remove the 2 bolts and pull the whole radio bezel off.

That's if you want to take the whole bezel out. But to get the head unit out you do need to use the removal tool. It takes seconds to remove it when you use the tool you're supposed to.

It takes seconds to pull the bezel out too...I just prefer to do it that way because it gives me more room to work on back in there. I'm not normally just doing one thing

You can pick up the tool at Wal Mart in the car audio section ,about $3. You can also remove the 2 small bolts holding the face plate. I had this happen a few times. If the CD door is open, you can coax it out by inserting another CD in partially. Sometimes I've just nudged the the stuck cd and it ejects right out, other times, I've removed the whole unit and got the cd out that way.
