Need new radio. Any suggestions?
My radio has decided to go all crazy on me, so I need a new one. Since I have to replace it I want to get one with an aux input. The only problem is that I don't care much for the look of aftermarket radios. Are there any out there that look some what stock? I have room for a double din radio but I don't mind if I end up putting in a single din one. As long as it is simple and not expensive.

Just my suggestion, a new single din will most likely not look stock because they have colorful display and all that fancy stuff, I would go with a cheap double din so it looks like the truck came with a stock double din. By cheap I mean a good brand but one with the basics. Hope this makes sense

Pioneer DEH anything. Tough to beat - even the baseline models now feature customizable colors displays as standard.
Edit: First in the Pioneer fanboys to come.

I think you would be alright with any Pioneer or Kenwood. JVC is made by Kenwood.
Sonicelectronix.com sells the radio with the dash kit for the truck if needed.

Re: Need new radio. Any suggestions?
Why not put a stock unit in with an aux input? I've posted the instructions on another thread.
Here,
Aux

Well that's how my radio sorta broke. I tried taking it apart and found out that I have a slightly different radio than the one in the instructions (I think it has to deal with the premium sound). When I found out my radio's circuit board was different I just but it all back together but in the process I must if disturbed something. And now my radio is going crazy. Although I would prefer to have an aux on the stock radio I just don't want to mess another one up.

Re: Need new radio. Any suggestions?
Modifying the stock Ranger radio is almost not worth the cost and time considering how often they go bad, picking up a slightly used aftermarket headunit is more economical, IMO.
I just swapped my Pioneer DEH 2000 for a unit with Bluetooth and extra rcas, so I'm letting it go for cheap. I chose it originally specifically for the OEM-esque look and matching green lighting. Has aux input too. Not a thing wrong save for the lack of shiny material peeled away from the volume knob.
Haven't created a thread for it yet, but PM me if you have any questions. Don't wanna spam you but I'd thought this would help.

Re: Need new radio. Any suggestions?
I think my thoughts are in line with the OP's - not everyone wants an aftermarket gadget that sticks out in a flamboyant fashion to let everyone in the world know that you were capable of spending money on a shiny toy to amuse yourself - no, some people care about form, function and that understated, classy look that comes from thought-out design. I like my equipment to blend in a not clash with the interior design already in place, because admittedly I like the design of the Ranger inside and out. It's a handsome and well-conceived machine.
I'm not sure if it's a coincidence or not, but many Pioneer Radios to me have always been of the savier bunch and have made tons of matching green-lit, understated and classy looking hardware that mate very well to many older Ford vehicles. I haven't cared much for the radios that have a completely different and hard to match colored backlight, or the crazy/wacky animations that burst across the screen and distract me while driving. Even higher-end Pioneers are guilty of this though.
Call me crazy, but one of the primary reasons I have been put off of buying any Chevy over the years is because of the turquoise-lit interior and never finding an aftermarket radio that would match their lighting. It was either Sony Blue, Pioneer Green or Kenwood Red for a very, very long time. Now you can customize backlights to have any color you want and surprise surprise! - Pioneer was one of the first to feature a headunit capable of doing just that. I believe all but the most baseline model Pioneer feature color-customization as a standard feature nowadays.
In short, there aren't many threads about this issue, even if I have made a bigger deal out of it than necessary. But to the OP and many others - yours cries are not unheard and are shared.
P.S. - I have since updated/modified my own Ranger's interior (LEDs, colored films) to match the all-new Light Blue color scheme featured in almost all new Ford vehicles - and a color-customizable Pioneer headunit to match!

The pioneer was not much more. I have a Pioneer in my Ranger. It is not very good. So far the Dual is great.

Re: Need new radio. Any suggestions?
I've had all kinds of headunits in all kinds of vehicles since the mid 70's when I got my first vehicle. Pioneer has always been the best. Alpine was pretty good, at one time.
