Down Firing tends to sound cleaner, but definitely a little more quite, and can sometimes help with rattling. Front Firing will sound more "poppy" and definitely more crisp.
It depends on what kind of drivers you have, and how loud they are compared to the wattage of the door speakers, but it mostly depends on where you want your subwoofers and how much room your willing to sacrifice.
If I remember you had to Type R 12's? If you're running the full 500rms on those, I'd go down firing for sure.

sorry to be off-topic, but STL, that avatar is EPIC.
anyway, I always found you get more bang for your buck, and a better box if you just build it yourself. so if those boxes are fitted for your truck, I'd rip all the dimensions, (just email them asking cause you wanna make sure it fits with your toolbox there or some bull crap) and make it yourself, and you can add your own little touches. Like "STL" extruding off the face of the box haha.

I went down there yesterday tested both 10" subs in both boxes. I have to say the down facing one sounded better.
I think I will just get the down facing one. I honestly have zero building skills. I never can measure things right and they end up bad. I know my father in law who is a carpenter would never help me. He is against music that does not talk about Jesus and heaven. So making a subwoofer box not gonna happen
And you gave me a heck of a idea for something on the front area of it.

haha cool man, but yea you could always rip off the carpet, do what you want, then re-carpet it. I know you can at least do that, haha.

building your own is def the best bet. most prefab box have to much air space and dont let the sub perform as well as it can. not to mention the customizing possibilities that come along with it

^Maybe it's because I've only been looking at truck boxes, but I've yet to see a box that was even close to the maximum size of any subs I've looked at?
