Default Subs in the jump seat storage holes? now with speaker and setup questions...

so I have an 04 extended cab with the jump seats that stow into cubbies on the sidewalls of the cab and I was wondering if their would be any decent way of pulling the seats out completely and discreetly fitting a pair of subs in the holes. my reasoning for this is that, as you know, the sound quality of the stock radios in these trucks is sub-par at best and I would like better quality sound through my truck. Im not looking for window shaking power as much as good quality sound with deeper lows and more defined tones than I can get with the system that's in it now wile maintaining the most stock look I can. stuff like sub boxes and amps get stolen out of vehicles all the time in my girl friends neighborhood and the way I see it. Out of sight, Out of mind

I have little to no experience in car audio out side of installing some parts in my friends Camaro a year ago but it seems like it could work if I found some decent lower profile subs.

any thoughts?

Ive seen it done on other trucks, looks good, and if done correctly, can look stock. i dont mean to derail your thread, but, my 03 came with just storage, no seats, could I add them?

probably? I'm honestly not sure. still new to Rangers as a whole. I'm a Dodge Cummins transplant.

i cant see it being that hard though. if you have the holes already you should be able to bolt the brackets in and call it good.

but thanks for the comment... need to start looking for subs that are good in a small area and short now haha.

im thinking two sets of these
http://outlet.crutchfield.com/p_575R...45#details-tab

and two of these
http://www.crutchfield.com/p_575R2SD...10.html?tp=111

and one of these set up with each of the front speakers on their own channel and the rear speakers and subs together on the other two
http://www.crutchfield.com/p_575R400....html?tp=35782

then stuff a bunch of dynamat and spray foam insulation or other sound deadening stuff in the cubbies to try and eliminate any rattling and insulate the truck a little from pouring too much sound out side (im not trying to get a getto thump here...) and maybe get the area to the .7 feet for a closed (ish) box

i havn't quite decided on a head unit yet. any thoughts from the people that know more than i do about this stuff?

What im going to do is get a box and put it behind the center console. That way, you can still use the 2 seats. Plus, you can mount a bunch of stuff on it like tweeters and what not. Im going with 2 10"s, maybe a couple 6x8" on sides. And tweeters. I AM going for the "ghetto" sound.

If your worried about it getting stolen go to good will and buy a ugly blanket to put over it.

the thing is, no one will ever ride in the back any way so me losing the back seats is no real loss. i DO however throw my tools back their and occasionally a rifle or shotgun and the space between the seats is just about ideal for what i use it for as it is and i want to maintain as much of it as i can. i have thought about a box and a blanket but i think subs in the seats would just be the best option for me if i can make it look as OEM as possible i can kill two birds with one bassy stone

It is possible to put them in the seats. Maybe a small woofer box with holes? You would have to buy one. It would look good but you wont be able to close the seats ( and on mine the jack is below the passenger back seat when the seat is open). Thats MY biggest problem with it. But hey, its your truck go for it and post pictures after. I would also say go talk to the boys at the audio store.

Think 2 x 8" shallow mount subwoofers. Forget the rear 6x8's. What are those for with the subs back there ? Also, you need to use a 4 channel amp in 3 channel mode or a seperate mono amp for the subs.

Just as a thought, some Rangers came with a pull out cover that goes over the back section of the extended cab. Mine does not have it, but the trim panel (where the front seatbelts retract into) has the cutouts where it attaches. If you could find one in the junk yard, you could install that and pull it over to cover whatever you have in the back. Also dark window tint works.

Keep in mind that the back of the cubby is actually the inside of the sheet metal for the outside of the truck. Don't put any screws in and using the Dynamat will help with cutting down vibrations.

Check out this tread for some ideas: http://www.fordrangerforum.com/audio...jump-seat.html
