System Help
Hey guys, sorry but i am completely new to anything car audio and have no idea about a thing when it comes to it. I have a 96 single cab splash and want to put in a decent system, I've got common sense and I'm pretty handy so I can install it myself, Should I consider maybe making a custom center console/sub box? I would be able to do it all perfectly fine, it's just a thought. I already have 40/20/40 seats btw. My budget would be around $250-$300, My speakers are stock, but I already have a pioneer headunit, with a decent equalizer, so i will not be needing one. If anyone could just tell me what I should look for/keep away from, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance

Get new speakers first off. Something 3 way that has a higher " rms wattage ". Peak power ratings are bull shit.
I just put pioneer 3 way speakers in. My head unit has 35 watts of rms power and they sounds clean, loud, and have just enough bass.
As for the sub and amp - being a single cab there aren't many choices you have. You wont need much to make tht small area bump tho.
Good speakers will prob run you between 50 and 100 bucks. Do you have 4 or only 2?

Mine are made by pioneer. TSA 687 R - A series. Love em. Sound great. 3 way. About 200 watts rms.
Really it all depends on your budget. Friend of mine bought the Wal Mart Scosche speakers. 3 way. Like 150 watts rms and they were $27 a pair. They sound nice. Actually have more bass than my pioneers. The only down fall to them is the connection point for the speaker wire. Kinda flimsy, but once they are installed who area.

Lol I get it. 2 ten or 2 12 inch woofers and a decent sized amp outta do it. Your gonna have a slim selection do to your cab. 1 woofer should give you a lot bass in there.
Every amp is rated with Peak Watts and RMS watts. Peak doesn't mean jack. So always go by the rms watts. Just because it says 1000 watts, doesn't mean your actually running 1000 watts to the woofer.
Your gonna wanna match up the woofer rms wattage to the amps rms wattage. Example - if a woofer can handle 500 peak watts ( rms watts is usually half of peak watts ) then really, it's around 250 rms. so you'd want to match your amp accordingly.

Back in the day - I had a grand prix with 4-12" inch MTX Blue Thunder Extremes. With 750 rms watts going to each one. I was running approx. 3,000 rms watts. I had a heavy alternator to handle all the current draw and 2 full farad digital capacitors in line. It was pretty nuts.

Re: System Help
I was thinking about maybe ripping out my center console and putting something like this in. With 1 10" facing the back instead of the front so that you could not see it, then mounting my amp underneath the box itself. this way it can double as a seat maybe, or would that not be good lol I'm trying to work with such small space

Cool idea. Bad idea for the amp tho. You wouldn't want anyone sitting on it. Plus underneath the box would cause a lot of heat problems.

Yeah I have my amp mounted behind the passenger seat and haven't had any issues. I do like the idea of putting a sub in the center though.
Also just FYI, when you are looking around (especially for amps) stay away from the brands such as Dual, Boss, Pyramid, Pyle, Power Acoustik, etc. These are very cheap manufacturers and you will usually at some point find out that you really do get what you pay for. If you are going for a solid long lasting system, steer clear.

Re: System Help
thanks a lot guys, just made up a quick design, let me know what you think. Oh, btw i picked up 2 8" thump subs at a swap meet a while back i forgot, that i guess i can use them in the console instead of tens.

Hmm I see what you're trying to do. You will have to make sure there's enough air space for the subs to, you know.. work. Did you say you want them rear firing?

Re: System Help
Just took some measurements, shit is way too small to even stuff 8"s, im just going to make a custom console/seat and then a seperate sub box to fit behind it seperately

What headunit do you have that outputs 35 watts RMS and what Pioneer speakers that handle 200 watts RMS ?
