Re: Wattage for Stock Deck (2010)
Well, I set the fade of my speakers to the front (stock system, still) and I really don't like the concept of the sound coming from in front of me. I'm gonna go ahead with doing the front and rear. It just sounds better to me having music from all angles.
Also, looking at raising the seat for a sub... The front mounts for the seat tracks are at an angle. Some much of an angle, in fact, that spacers would move the seat forward more than up. I don't have the tools to fab up my own brackets... Any ideas?

I think maybe if you post about making spacers in another forum you might get more help. Maybe in the fabrication or interior tech sections?

You can have 4 speakers and just fade to the front most of the time, or if you really want to just have no rear speaks. If you do want some good rear speakers, then just get some 6x8's. Again, they really aren't as important as the front so you don't have to splurge on them.

Just for rear fill, another good idea is to get speakers with a high sensitivity rating and power them with the headunit rear speaker wire outputs only. Leaves the amp rear channels to bridge to a sub.

Re: Wattage for Stock Deck (2010)
That would be a pretty under powered sub. 100RMS x4... 2 to the speakers, then bridge 2 to the sub for 200RMS... Am I looking at that, right?

Oh ok. That sound like a good plan, then.

Re: Wattage for Stock Deck (2010)
I only have 150 watts going to my ported 10" and it is plenty loud enough bass in my supercab 4 door. Sealed you need more power because while it is tighter and punchier bass, it is less efficient without a port.

Re: Wattage for Stock Deck (2010)
I'm looking at 8" shallow mounted subs and they handle between 100 to 200 RMS, depending on the brand. 270 from the amp would be plenty.
I'm pretty good at building boxes, myself. I'm sure I could build a decent box to go under the seats.
When I get started on it, I'll do a project thread.
I'm sure it's obvious that I'm still feeling out what I wanna do with this system. I've done system installs and all, but I'm open to the advice from people that have the experience with Ranger systems.
Would it really matter where the ports on the box were if the box is under the seats?

Re: Wattage for Stock Deck (2010)
I don't believe you will be happy with shallow mount 8" subs. JL makes a great 8" sub, but it's not a shallow mount. If you want to save space, go with a sealed box. What type music do you listen to most ?

Re: Wattage for Stock Deck (2010)
I'm not a JL fan. They're shallow mount sub has horrible reviews. Pioneer makes a comparable sub, as does Kicker.
I listen to Metalcore and Melodic Death Metal, mostly. It's pretty demanding on both high and low sound drivers.

Amazing find James. I would love to try that out.

I checked out the 8" shallows and found that the Pioneer has a pretty low range. It goes down to 30Hz, which of course for an 8" shallow is really impressive.
