Default Stock Right side speakers not working

Soon after I purchased my 2002 XLT, I noticed that the right side speakers weren't working. Sometimes after I start the truck they work, but they quit within 2-3 min. Left side speakers are working fine.

I pulled the head unit and checked the connections in the plug, and they seem to be connected ok. when I pulled it, I heard something rattling around, so I unscrewed the cover and dumped out the two pennies that were rattling around in there. (before I removed the pennies, sometimes funny things would happen, like the volume or the station changing quickly and automatically. this no longer happens, but the speakers still don't work) Neither RF or RR speaker works. Anyone had this problem before?

I have the head unit that has CD/AM/FM/Cassette.

Any help is much appreciated.

maybe try another head unit from a known working system to see if the pennies screwed up something internally in that unit?

I would first check the wiring. I had a problem like that, (left speaker not working), and turned out the wires were completely sheared at the door hinge. mine was easy enough to fix, but you might have to trace your wire all the way from the head unit to the problem speaker. first use a multimeter to check if theres an open lead on both wires. Dont want you to have to spead a hundred dollars on speakers when you can spend 10 dollars on speaker wire and splices.
