Default 6"x8" to 6.5" adapter?

Do the 6x8 to 6.5 adapters work?I blew one of my 5x7s today and am wondering if a 6.5 can work.If the adapters don't work, how hard is it to just drill new holes in the door?
Thanks for any replies.

i haven't drilled any holes yet but just drill the stock speaker holes then drill your 6.5" speaker holes if you know what i'm saying.

Because 5x7 and 6x8 speakers suck, the don't have stability or SQ a component set has.

I am also running a home brew adapter out of 1/2 hardwood ply.

You can't just say that as a blanket statement and what about 6x8/5x7 component sets ?

How do you keep blowing those Polks ? The amp is less than the rated power of the Polks. Are you trying to overdrive the amp with the gain knob and clipping the signal to the Polks ?

I play the hell outta them. No,I had my system professionally tuned this time.I'm not sure yet they're blown. My driver side speaker started cutting out today.I need to check the connections in the door first.Regardless I want an upgrade(the bug, they call it).If the db's are okay and it's a loose connection I'm gonna put them in the rear dash of my Mustang.

Because there are fewer choices.I want a set of Polk MM 6501.Plus I gather the general consensus is that 6.5s have better SQ.

Do you have a finished product picture that would really help?

Which is just not true. Sure, a 6.5" Alpine type R is going to be better than a 6x8" Sony.

They are step above the 2 or 3 way stuff but still they dont handle the power or sound as good compared to a nice set of 6.5/.75 components.

Without a price range or goal, blanket statements are all that the OP set the standard with.

Actually both have an RMS rating of 60W.The Boston GTA supplies 2x 60W rms(@4ohms).Question: The Polk MMs(I want) are 2.7 ohm models. So theororetically the MMs will pull more than the 60x2 the Boston amp supplioes @4 ohms...........right?

What style of music do you listen too?

I prefer a silk or soft dome tweeter as I listen to more rock/metal. But If you like rap a titanium or hard dome tweeter is better for that.
