as far as power and ground wires are concerned...look at your amp it should have two wires that are larger than the rest, are possibly burnt, marked as power (+) or ground (-). These are the wires you are going to replace one at a time. So disconnect one wire from the amp and replace it with the corresponding 4 gauge wire from the amp kit you bought, tracing the existing wire path with the new 4 guage wire. Note of caution when you are doing the power wire disconnect the wire from the battery first so eliminate the chance of shocking yourself, or cresting more problems for your truck and or system.

Disconnect the ground terminal from the vehicle battery before doing anything !

I have the same love for bass as the next guy but you really just need to start upgrading your trucks power output and not so much your components. It's not cheap but if you want good quality bass it's way worth it. I roughly spent 800 just for the following not including the amp, subs, and deck : a 1200 CCA battery with 4 gauge wire for my ground and power for the amp. As well for the battery ground, power and 240 amp alternator. All kicker hyper flex. New higher end RCA cables will help. And always make sure you have a good ground for your amp with your cable as short as posable. I run 2 10 jl w3v3 in a vented box with a kicker 1000.1 ZX with a pioneer avh-3300bt. And it hits harder than 90% of the cars around my town (sf, bay area)

Hope that gives ya some direction.

12v will not shock you, it can however arc and cause potential electrical problems, or worse fire. ALWAYS disconnect the negative battery cable before doing anything electrical.

12v can shock you although not lethal, but is enough to startle you and cause a bad chain of events. But yes do the negative terminal first, safer that way.

12v from a battery will not shock you dry. You can grab the post of the battery terminals all day long. If you are wet, grounded, and stupid enough to be doing electrical work, then you deserve to get a little tingle. I get shocked with our welding machines at work quite often. They put out about 40v up to 600 amps and will give you a little jolt depending on resistance you put out. Ive done lots of 12v electrical and have never experienced even the slightest shock.
