Help with amp/subs !!!
ok here are the basics...i have 2x 12" 1200 watt kenwood subs and a 1000 watt kenwood amp. i have everything installed in the truck. i have the 12V run directly from the battery. i have the subs hooked up correctly i have the rca cable hooked up correctly and here is where i think my failure could be... either its is my ground witch i have hooked up to a bolt that holds my driver seat to the floor and i figure that should be a definite ground... also i have a aftermarket sony explode radio in my truck right now and when i go to hook my remote wire to the blue wire on my radio the protect light on my amp turns on. i have also directly hooked my remote to the pos battery terminal and i still get the protect light ... does anyone have any idea where els my fault may be ??? also my amp/sub box is mounted directly behind my driver seat so if any one has a better place i could ground the amp please tell me. thank you
P.S i have a premium sound system if that makes a difference.

I have a 99 and I had that same problem happening to me. Try moving your ground to a different spot. In the 99's theres a few bolts behind the seats that hold the jack mechanism down, I grounded mine there.

The bolt for you seat is not a good ground, when the truck was built the factory gets paint in there. i would def move your ground. I always ground to the frame. its the best spot. just run your negative cable threw one of the rubber plugs in your cab and down to the frame. Its easy money!

also check to make sure that blue wire is actually a switched power wire, my buddy had a pioneer and the only blue wire was for a power antenna so we had to tap a different power source.

Yeah good idea RangerJustin. I remember struggling with that for weeks. I remember finding a really good wiring diagram one time to tell them apart...I'll see if I can find it again.

To add on what Justin said:
My sony xplod had 2 blue wires, the ant and the remote turnon wire.
Make sure that you are connecting the amps turn on wire to the wire coming out of the radio, not the wire coming out of the factory harness.

im 99% sure its your ground, amps have that protection light for poor grounds. sand down to bare metal, and just use a self tap screw and bolt her right in

thanks again for the advice.

Wiring Amp Problems
I'am trying to hook up my amp to my 2010 Ford Ranger. I pretty sure I got every right. I got my power straight from my battery, ground wire is good but I've decided to stick with my stock stereo for awhile. So I got a RCA converter and that is wired right but now I don't know what wire i should connect the blue remote wire to. Any Help?

Fordranger13 where ever you are if there's a Sears near you, go pick up a multimeter from there its about 20$ it is a very small investment that will help you get through and test many issues. Unfortunately you can't always go with what some wiring diagrams say, I always test things myself. If you have any questions on how to use it... PM me
Cheers and happy installing.
PS. Mattfetters, I couldn't agree with you more!! Bare metal and (2) self tapping screws will almost never fail as a ground!
