Default anyone willing to teach me?

Sorry for the super newb post but I've never worked on a sound system before and i want to do my own in my ranger. I was thinking nothing big, just good quality, like a decent head unit, alpine door speakers and a alpine 10" or 12" sub and i suppose I'll need an amp. That's all great but i just dont know how to hook any of it up. Is anyone willing to teach the ignorant yet ambitious new guy how to do it right?

You need the parts first.. For a deck, where ever your buying it from, should be bale to hook you up with the wiring harness and mounting bracket you need for your year/style of truck. When I installed my deck I needed a Wiring Harness(17$), Mounting Bracket(40$ish), JVC Deck(150ish, I think).

Then for speakers, you need some excess wire(well, I used extra wire, just made things easy). Then you need your Sub, box, and Amp. For the sub/amp, again, where ever you buy it from they should be able to guide you, since I don't know where your going shopping. For that hook up you'll need an amp wiring kit(Available at a wal-mart. I got mine from an electronic supply store). Then, you just need to wire it all up..Once you have everything bought(focus on the deck and speakers for now..the Sub can be wired in at any time, IMO), then come back and we can guide you more. I have a bunch of pictures if you need them.

I got my amp kit from here and it's a great kit. It's cheap but it's not crap. For my friends set up I'll be ordering from here again.

well my budget isn't a huge deal because i plan on getting the HU first then new kenwood or alpine door speakers (6x8 i believe) and then an amp and sub whenever i am comfortable with my capability to install it. i was looking at HU's around the $150 range.

http://www.crutchfield.com/p_113KDCX...6.html?tp=5684

this one looks great to me bc it has everything i want and comes with installation gear.

----------

and i dont know how to wire anything... will i have to run a wire through the dash and stuff back to the amp as well as a ground wire for it?

2 things to spend the money on for good quality. 1 you have an alpine head unit imo the best sound out there. the second front speakers. i used boston aucoustic component speakers and won sound quality competition with them

list of materials

head unit
adapter for radio to fit in the hole in the dash
wiring harness to adapt the radio to the trucks harness
small amp 2 channel 100 watts rms or more for the front speakers.
front speakers get a good component set
speaker wire
subs 1 or 2 depending on how much you want to shake.
class d amplifier for the subs. try to find one that matches the rms wattage of the subs. this part is important when it comes to sub amps you get what you pay for. if possible get a sub amp that has a 24 db crossover. it really helps with quality in a truck
power wire for amp will depend on the size of the amp
may need a capacitor depending on size of the amp.
rear speakers arent important just get some pioneer 6x8 you just need something that will not distort in the back

im sure im forgetting something

oh yeah patience

no your amp will not have a physiccal remote when i say remote i mean a power soucre that turns the amp on and off with your radio and your ignition it will tell you which wire it is on the harness it goes from the radio to your amp

wow i didn't know that. damn i'm lost in all this. first thing's first i guess. HU and good quality front door speakers and decent rear door speakers. then ill bother you guys about wireing an amp and a sub. like one 10" or 12" sub is all the shake im looking for.

Start with the HU. To wire in an amp/sub later takes all of 5 minutes behind the dash.

You can buy the removal tools for Ford Radios, or bend your own piece of metal, grind one side down so theres a flat angled side. Thats all I did, and it worked fine. Hell if I'm going to buy something I can make in the garage..

yeah, the kenwood HU im ordering from crutchfield comes with the tools and instructions. and i've already had my radio out without the tools trying to figure out how all that works on my own. also im thinking of some kenwood 3 way speakers 80 bucks for 2 of them 2-80 rms watt range for the front doors
