Default premium sound solution

if i recall correctly Jensen and Ford came up with a "premium sound system" this was before they started calling it "mach" sound systems. in 89 or 90 i believe they started with the ranger, then in 92 when the bronco 2 was retired and they called it the explorer, it had the option for the jensen premium sound, that was introduced in the ranger the previouse year. so.....to answer your question, call crutchfield and they will be able to tell you how to identify it, or you can take your vin to the ford dealer and they should be able to provide you the answer as well. the other option is to take a picture of the factory deck, and post it online here, and i bet a few guys here would be able to identify it for you. do you have a wiring digram to show you the "extra" wires if it was "premium". if your wiring diagram shows it and you cant find them....then you dont have it. if you have an extra plug on the back of the wiring harness, you might have "premium sound" See if this helps......

Default non premium

looking at the wiring on the back of the head unit, i dont think you have the premium, i would check with a wiring diagram and match them to what you have, I would wait to hear from STL and see what he has for a diagram. use that info to verify, wire by wire, what it is you have. then you know for sure - I am going to bet that you do not have it based solely on the type of head unit you have in your truck right now. i would be surprised if it was a premium.
