Default Question on double din headunit

Looking at purchasing this in dash gps system, but crutchfield is saying it wont fit in my 2000 Ranger.

http://signature.crutchfield.com/s_1...tp=20222&avf=N

Are they messing up, or will this reciever require custom modification?

im guessing its too big to fit in where the radio was, you should maybe call them and ask.

If you call them they will say it wont fit

Double Din will fit with minor trimming. double din kits for rangers off of ebay, just search for it.

It will fit fine. All you have to do though is on the bezel there is a lip on the top and the bottom of the radio opening. Take a dremel and trim the upper and lower lips off and everything will fit like a charm. I'll post up some pictures of my double din so you can just see some more pictures.

Never understood why radio companies along with crutchfield dont just say "may require trimming" they would sell a lot more radios.

Tyler you still need the install kit right or do the radios come with it?
I was not pos. on what you had to trim

Nope, I already have the install kit. Bought it the same time I bought the headunit. It took me like an hour to install my headunit because I was doing it in the dumbest way. I attached the brackets to the headunit first and then tried to squeeze the headunit in there instead of putting the bracket on the bezel and then putting the headunit in and then putting the bolts in.

I don't get excited about the install. I get excited about what comes after the install. The music! Haha

Default Re: Question on double din headunit

I just don't get why Ford didn't make this a "true double din"...I remember in 97 when I had my splash, the poor guy at circuit city (great install guy btw) took a few hours and just built a custom bracket to get my kenwood head unit, and a kenwood full din "graphic equilzer" installed....wish I had a camera back then...looked friggin sweet and sounded perfect. I miss that damn truck....anyways...as I rant on....just boggles me why they didn't make that a standard two din....not like there's no space ya know....
