Hi, on my 89 ranger single cab i have these 2 black boxes with what seems to be 4" speakers. however, i bought some to replace the torn ones, but the sound doesnt even come close. the old ones had a bump to them and im not sure if they are subs.

what makes it more strange, is everywhere i look it says in supposed to have 6x9's in the back. any help would be appreciated.

ALL the info I see on the net says you have 6.5" speakers in front and 4" speakers in the rear. No subs. Your best bet if you are upgrading the sound in that truck is to just disconnect the rear speakers and use components or quality full range speakers in front. Or, if you just want to power the 4" speakers with a new head, use 600 hz bass blockers.

oh ok. thank you. what exactly does a bass blocker do? does it turn the speakers into one big tweeter or does it turn them into some sort of woofer? thanks for the help.

Just keeps small speakers from playing frequencies they can't reproduce efficiently. Above 600 or 800 hz is hardly 'tweeter only' range. Lower midrange and up.
