Default Head Unit upgrade

I have a 1973 Ranger f100 and am looking into putting a new head unit in it. It still has the stock mounting plate with the two holes for the volume and tuning so I can not fit a new unit in there. I was debating on cutting it to fit but would rather not. Any suggestions?

usually, I just cut out to fit the new head unit. I personally don't like the radio in the glove box because it's hard to reach when driving, and easy to steal.

Cut the hole.. I did one today in a 78 f100. Just mark the outline of the cage and cut away with a dremel or a roto-zip.

Thanks. I actually found a digital replica stereo with a mp3 connection that just goes right in. I think I'm Going to just do that.
