Is anyone running 4 12s in their ranger super cab?what is the best way to face the subs?up? down ?toward seats? i attached a pic i found online of what i would like to build but think i would hear alot of distortion with them facing up.I might go for the downward firing but i dont know thats why i posted here.thanks

The best way for max sound is downfire... backward is the next. Subs work of the principle of "reverb" or the sound the wave makes from bouncing off something. Thats way front or upward facing subs generally sound like crap.

That was my thinking.It would sound distorted because my ears would hear it before it got the sound waves got a chance to bounce back with them facing up.Its gonna be fun to build a box to fire them down.wont quite be as easy as facing up.but I want to do it right the 1st time

down fire ftw. I built a box for 4 tens. I think 12's would be pushing it, as far as physical room to put them in there. the square subs would be perfect

Its not as hard as you think. We build them all the time. Actually have one built for 4 10''s at our shop. My boss would kill me but I can send you the dimensions if you'd like... for a small fee. (like $8 bucks... or the cost of a 12 pack )

thanks for the offer but its gotta be 12s got them sittin here waiting for an enclosure tomorrow.I dont know if i can do the down fire with 4 12s because of space.I might be stuck with them up.

up or down, whats the difference... Its still the same width.

I've always liked either up facing or forward facing, but downward firing would help eliminate dust & dirt building up on the cones... downside is that you'd need to install all 4 subs before loading the box in the truck.

If you made the box with a bump out on the front side, you should be able to stagger 4x 12's... they might even fit side by side, I can't remember the exact overall width of the extra cab area.

I just want to add, this is the MAX width. I had to remove both front seats to get the box in and removed the rear seats so it would fit.

The down fire is the best box design IMO because you dont lose the back storage area. With the box, you still have your back cab

I just did some quick measuring and i have 50" from door to door so it will be a tight squeeze but I should be able to fit 4 12s with them mounted damn near touching side to side.I know i will have to ditch the seat but im glad mine is the supercab 4 doors should make install easy.

The box I built was 54" Maybe cause mine was 2 door ext cab ('97) It was a tight squeeze lol

Something like that... or this...



Moving the center 2 subs out a few inches should allow the outer 2 subs a little room to move in & save on width.
