Are you sure it couldn't? Get an adapter to plug in the sub to the cig lighter, and then get a 3.5 to RCA adapter and plug it in. Simple as that right?

Yup. Well you would need an inverter to power the ac sub with the truck's dc power.

My Klipsch 6.5" sub would probably pound about the same if not harder than the 12" I have there right now. Also it would take up less room since the amp is in the box.

Probably because he has it...I wouldn't do it, just because of the mess of wiring that would be going around with the inverter.

Computer subs are powered by the USB, right? So its 5.0 VDC.
Sounds like a mess to me. Just man up and buy the rear thing. No need to half ass things in this world....

I've never heard of a USB powered subwoofer, I know mine is powered by a regular outlet plug...

Good choice and I liked your original question, good to see unique ideas coming across.

No,subs are not powered by 5 volts off the usb plug. Unless it's one of those toy speaker systems you set on top of the desk and that wouldn't be a true sub.

I don't see why not. I borrowed a friends power invertor and hooked up the sub from my logitech z2300 and put it in my truck. That thing hits hard for what it is. I love it.
