+1 on designing a system without the need for a cap.

Audio shops will tell you "you need this $299 cap so your battery doesn't go down" or some other load of poop.

If your electrical system supplies sufficient current for the load applied to it, a cap is not needed at all.

I've seen 30,000w + systems without a single cap... multiple batteries & alternators, but no caps.

It's my understanding that some of the Expo 130a alternators will work on some Rangers (I have no idea which models/years are compatible though)
You can have your current alternator re-built to 130+ amps, but it will probably cost as much or more than just buying a brand new 150-250a alternator.

I got my 200a alternator from an alternator company on evilBay a few years ago... altersomethingerother.
Mine bolted right up, I installed 1/0ga wire throughout the truck & my voltage never drops below 14v when the truck is running, no matter how much stuff I have going... stereo, headlights, fog lights, AC, wipers, etc.

No matter what size alternator you upgrade to, make sure to upgrade the wiring also... power AND grounds.
Adding a big alternator & using the stock wiring will not help at all. Give that current a big pipe to flow through & it will. Choke the current with small wiring & try pulling a full load with it & it will heat up & possibly cause major problems.

yeah i will never buy a cap. i already knew that much. i just had my alt off today and was like shit, lets buy a better one. i know how the charging works and all, a second battery would be nice, but then again u have to watch out for draining eachother, or the alt not powerful enough for both. thanks though. next will definitely be the big 3.

Having two batteries will not have any effect on the alternator. The ONLY purpose of the batteries is starting the engine and powering accessories when the engine is not running. They will only "drain eachother" or effect the alternator if one of them is defective or bad. But that will happen with a single battery too.

The best bet would be a deep cycle battery and an HO alternator along with big 3 wiring. If the alt cant keep up with charging the battery, it certainly wont help charging a battery and a capacitor.
Caps could help if the alternator is strong enough to keep the cap fully charged, it will help level out peaks and troughs in voltage spikes. It is not a fix for electrical problems.

This is what i have come to understand about the cap arguement. please if you have anything to add or correct please do

edit:
and to answer OP question you have between 95-130a alternator depending on the engine.
and the amp will pull about 105a @14.4v and 125a @12v
Watts/voltage=amperage 1500/14.4=~105a
You are absolutely correct, sir !

Yes, the Big 3 wiring upgrade is a must for anyone running high power audio systems.

That's not a bad price on a 250a.

it all depends on how the batteries are hooked up, but yes if u have 2 batteries and one is not up to par, then the alt will have to work overtime, and will burn out. both batts have to be either brand new, or made for the application u want. and buying two batts (since the one i have now is shit) is too costly at the moment. would that alt u showed for ebay fit a 3.0? or just the 4?

to be honest im not 100% sure. i personally have a 2.3L l4 engine and i have the 4.0/explorer alternator. hooked straight up with no problems, with the exception of trying to get it past the intake due to its slightly bigger size. i would assume this should fit.
bring your alternator core to autozone or if you have a local shop that repairs them and they might give you 50$ or so for the core, especially if its working.
