3-10s or 2 12s?
after doing some looking at my truck and around the forums, didnt see much about 3 10" setups.
for what i got out of my research i can get more cone area from 3 10"s than what i can our of 2 12's from the same space. only sealed boxes.
only planing on running 1000-1200 peak watts
so what input do you guys have for this kind of setup?

Re: 3-10s or 2 12s?
1. peak wattage doesnt mean anything. look at RMS rating.
2. why 3 10's? you could get 1 beefy 10 or 12 that will do the same, and take less room

Re: 3-10s or 2 12s?
I would do a nice 2 12" setup. Mine is a pretty nice setup (2 12" kenwoods with an 1800 watt amp, 900rms), not the best but plenty good enough for what I need.

Re: 3-10s or 2 12s?
The question is what do you want to do with it?
DD system? SPL setup?
I had 4 10's put down small numbers sealed, once I opened up, dropped it to 34hz i was putting down 142 on music with 400rms, 100 a piece.
Now I have 4 12's, but have them sealed, around 45hz its louder than the 10s, but around 35 it goes flat. But im feeding them a lot more power, and cleaner power.
If you want a good dd system look at some sa-8's i've used them in a few installs and am never dissapointed. You can do 4 and get pretty loud, but the freq response is awesome.
It's all in the box too, you can have top notch equipment, and a shitty box and have shitty sound.

Re: 3-10s or 2 12s?
if you want 2 subs, do 1 10 and 1 12. 10's can't go as low as the 12's can, i can tell when a note is too low for my 10 to do and it gets kind of embarrassing at a stop light when it goes boom boom then nothing. lol

Re: 3-10s or 2 12s?
1 10 and 1 12? Don't recommend that at all, you'll get horrible overtones at different frequencies, unless you set them up to handle different frequencies.
It sucks when the lows flatten and go away, you just turn it down and hope no one looks over. Been there. lol

Re: 3-10s or 2 12s?
3 10s = FAIL. You need to run at least 4 10's. I know from experience. 3 10's sounded no different than 2, and it fucks with the ohms by making 1/3 ohm. So you could get like 2.66 ohms or some stupid shit. I would run 4 dvc 2 ohm subs.
But, alot depends on the music type. If your into rap and deep long constant bass then get the 12's. If you like rock and quick hitting snapy bass, get the 10's

Re: 3-10s or 2 12s?
why not just get one really nice 10 in the right ported box with a good amp? im running a kicker L7 10 in a 2 1/2 cu sqft ported box with a kicker zx500 amp...seems to be plenty enough...sounds way better than my cvr 12 i had. plus the 10s seem to have a more crisp hit...although destroys my truck when it hits..but depending on what u want 2 comp 10s would sound good in smaller boxes depending on how much room u wanna give up

not true.
you could run 2 2ohm (svc) subs and 1 4ohm (svc) and get a 2ohm final load on paper. of course, in real life it will never be exactly 2 ohms.

Re: 3-10s or 2 12s?
I SPL'd everywhere last night, I couldn't control it. I'm gonna SPL all the way home from class in a few minutes too.
You can get mighty close to 2 ohms yeah, but why not just go all matching and do 2 or 4.
