Default Audio Newbie

I'm thinking about upgrading my sound system and I have a few questions. How much of an improvement will I notice if I just replace all four speakers in my 02 super cab and add a new aftermarket head unit? I would be keeping the stock wiring. I'm not looking for a huge booming system, I just want something that sounds good loud without distortion. Also, is an amp really necessary?

If you upgrade to a alpine deck and alpine speakers it will be nice and clear. You wont get any boom boom unless you add a good amp.

I would recommend the Alpine type S speaker.

If you buy an entry level system be sure to think a couple of steps ahead. Make sure you have enough pre-amp outputs just in case you do want to upgrade anytime down the road (adding a sub for instance). STL is correct, Alpine makes some very nice equipment and it's not too expensive either.

New deck and 4 new speakers will def improve the sound 100%. If you feel you still want more out of the setup after it is installed then I would rec. adding a 4 channel amp to your aftermarket speakers. And of course, if you want more bass, add a subwoofer. But, go ahead and just do the speakers and deck for now and see if that satisfies your you. If so then there is no reason to spend more money on a 4 ch amp for the speakers or a sub amp (unless you want bass).

Yes, it will improve the quality of the music. I agree with STL: Alpines are a good quality system. The head unit alone, even with the stock speakers, will improve the sound. Aftermarket head units usually have double to 3 times the output of the OEM unit in Rangers. Someone correct me if I am wrong, but the OEM unit in Rangers is about 8rms/speaker. An Alpine will generally pump out 15-25 rms/speaker. It doesn't seem like it's a lot, but it is.

The Type S will be enough. The Type R is double the price but only 30% better performance. Compare here:

I would also recommend a Pioneer System. Their 6x8s are great too....and specifically designed to fit the Fords. I have these - See here:

I only did a search for "blue-tooth included", there are more to look at and compare. I need to get a new head unit as well, but I have a 2din and want to go for something with a DVD screen.

If your going to do just one or the other invest in a good set of speakers first.
