Question PA not loud enough.

Ok so I have a 100w radioshack pa speaker pluged into a uniden 520xl cb radio. My question is why is it so quite? Seriously, if im in a quite spot with my windows down I cant hear myself at all. I know its talking because ill have a friend in front to check. How can I make it so my pa is of loud enough to actally hear? Thanks.

my guess would be an amp. maybe something similar to a 2/4ch amp for speakers.
I've thought the same thing for mine.
where do you have your settings on your cb? ie: gain, dynamic, volume

Ive thought about buying an amp as well. When im messing with the pa I have the volume all the way up. I dont have the gain or sq set to anything in particular, ive tried messing with them at different settings but it does not do much with the pa. I actually have them down low cause I can hear the cb jiberish out of my pa when I have them up and on the pa setting.

Yeah. Im just hoping there might be a way of turning it up withought spending the extra cash. It seems like there are to many people with pa systems for me to have not heard of this issue before.

Yeah. I would like to have mine at least half as loud. I heard a cops pa the other day and thought, "why cant mine be that loud?" You seriously cant hear mine, its super weak.

Might depend on how it is aimed as well, my friend has one in his impala interceptor. Just a 50 watt with the walmart cb special, and people can hear it driving down the road since its where the battery used to be, and is facing forward. Just a suggestion.

Super bump. I wanna get this thing louder and keep putting it off cause I really dont wanna buy an amp. My friend was saying maybe connecting it to the car stereo amp. Its just so weak I dont even wanna use it. Totally lame. Any ideas anyone, someones gotta know the magic trick that will make this thing scream.

you do need an amp. i had the same problem with my pa the first time i installed it. i dont use mine to talk that much but for the siren and it needs to be loud. plus try mounting it under the bumper and not the grill. the ground is your friend in this matter

You need the gear the cops use, look at a place like galls.com. The speakers and amps are quite different, and very effective (usually the siren speaker!). The speakers are designed to withstand bumper mounts with road salt spray. I have such a PA/speaker on my boat, very effective, and has lasted without any noticeable issue in sea salt spray for I don't know how many years now. I use the electronic horn feature too.

Take care of local ordinances: PAs may not be allowed without a permit (Sirens certainly not). In the City of Boston, for example, a permit is needed for a PA and it is enforced. Too many cop/fire wannabees or other political issues...even other emergency organizations (like Red Cross senior disaster response members, I was told) would get ticketed if detected. But then, that's the city and not the trail!

It's all about what you plug in the cb.

I tried the squared shape box thingie and it sucked.

Then i found at a flee market a huge shoolyard pa announcer coned shape

Something like that, maybe a foot and a half long, whenever i'd talk too close to the window i'd have crazy feedback it was so powerful.

You can put a 1000w speaker on it. Its not going to change the fact that CB's PA output is probably only about 7-10 watts. Your speaker is probably broken though because it should still be loud enough to hear and be very annoying.

I though about how my speaker may be broken, I think ill try out a new one and if it doesnt work I can always return it. I have a 100w square one. I think il try out a smaller round one. Thanks everyone.
