Question subwoofer help

i was thinking bout puttting in a subwoofer in my truck...but i was told u have to make a box according to the subwoofer...can any one help me. thanks

iv got a 94 ford ranger. most baisic truck u can ever get. no power stearing. manual locks and windows. got a JVC KDR200, with a pair of Pyle 6" X 8" Blue Label 3-Way Speakers and wired an antennna. its a 2.3L 4 banger, with a 5 speed manual transmission. it had 117,400 miles on it wen i got it. i plan on dropping it a few inches. in the procces of repainting the interior. i want new headlights and taillights and paint my factory rims black. plan on getting a cheap sub and put in it.

Well the sub needs a box but you can buy 'em... I got mine at car toys... just a 10" sub w/ a box that has a 10" hole... only things you really need to worry about is if the box will fit where you want it and the hole has to match your sub size.



I have this in 10" in my truck... And I have one of these (or really close) sitting in my garage...

If you were looking for a 10", and are concerned about how much space it will take up, you might want to look into the Infinity Basslink. It's a way smaller package than a separate sub box/amp are going to be.

Just fitting the sub is NOT all you have to think about. Unless you don't care about sound quality. Subs need a certain amount of airspace (volume) in the box to work properly, and this varies from sub to sub, and from ported boxes to sealed. If you never plan on really using the sub, and undersized enclosure will work at lower volumes, but crap out, and deliver less sound for the power usage at higher volumes. You can make more sound with a 8" sub in a properly sized enclosure, than with a 12" sub in a box thats too small.

It my truck, I built a box that takes up all the room behind the seat (reg cab), and achieved the proper airspace for my 10" MTX T4500. Before that, I had tried to squeeze a 10" and a 12" in the same space, and the single 10" hits much harder. I have just enough leeway back there to do a 12", so I'll be stepping up.

In sealed enclosures, the airspace required for a given size sub is usually fairly close, but the manufacturer can give you the optimal size, and it should be included with the sub if you buy new. This is why I say get the sub before you get the box.

holly shit guys..ok how bout this. anybody got any ideas on a small cheap sub. that i can just make or get a small box for it? i dont need anything special. just something to give my truck lil bita heads turning or sound better. al i got will be 2 Pyle 6" X 8" Blue Label 3-Way Speakers - 360W Max. so idn how good they will sound alone. waiting on the head unit to hook it all up

If you just want to turn heads, drill a small hole in your tailpipe before the muffler, tune the truck to run real rich, advance your timing beyond what you need, and drive around revving it up so it will pop and bang and shoot flames. That'll turn heads!

shop around. go to some shops and just price pioneer is a good and cheap sub. i have a single 12 in mine and i love it the bass will just start hittin and people are like wtf its comin from the ranger?!? priceless. subs can get extremely expensive if u make it. i got my whole set up for around 450 deck wireing harness amp box sub. it is also very easy so install and will save u money. people say custome boxes are better but i have a prefabed box and its nice. o and get a PORTED box it will sound even better and loader

I think a sealed or ported box should depend on the type of music you listen to. For rap and stuff like that a ported box would be better. But for anything with an actual bass guitar I'd go with a sealed box. Sealed will give you a clean, tight sound. Ported will be boomy and individual bass notes tend to bleed together.

ok thanks guys...but can u explain the defference in the boxes? and what kinda stuff do i need to look for in the sub to fit my truck? as far as the box goes..

very true jay. didnt think about that. xplods can be good depends on wat u are going to be listing to most. if u want alot of bass ur going to want either 2 10's or a 12 or 15 and ported boxes have a slot or holes for better air flow.

Also, ported boxes require more airspace, and will therefore be larger, something to think about in a truck. A single 10" sub and matching amp, somewhere in the 425rms, 600 peak watt range will be sufficient, given a properly sized box. With mine, i have managed to rattle stuff off the shelves in the garage with the truck parked outside, with a single 10" in a sealed box with enough airspace, and a 600 watt amp. I cannot stress enough the importance of having the proper enclosure volume for a sub to perform correctly!
