Default Power wire for 2004 XLT

How do you guys run your power wire into the cab of your Ranger? I'm trying not to drill but it's not looking to promising.

I suggest unbolting the engine bay fuse box, drill a hole under it on the firewall, run a grommet. Best place under the hood to add holes.

But since you don't wanna drill, you can run it through the steering boot or the parking brake boot.

I know my '97 isn't the same generation as yours, but I doubt that this has changed much.
I pushed the grommet for the hood release out, and put in a larger one from home depot. I then put both the hoodrelease and the power wire through it and sealed with silicon.

Thanks for the Excellent advice and I may end up drilling because of the thickness of my cable I don't believe I can squeeze it in the steering boot or parking brake boot.

behind the fuse box, just above the main connector to the cab interior, there's a big blank spot that is clear of obstructions on both sides -- it's an ideal place to route the wiring, and fairly unobtrusive once the fuse box is bolted back in place.

Or if you dont mind running extra wire, there are drain plugs on both sides under the cab. They are little rubber stopper like things that you just pull out and run wire under the carpet. Thats how I got my undercar led kit wired in.

If even want to, drill a hole just a little smaller than the wires in the rubber stopper center where it is thin and put it back in the hole. Then just push the wires through to prevent anything from getting in.

Even better description of my suggestion.

How about a pic too!!?!? lol...

Red circle area, I've got two 3/4" holes. with 5/8" holed grommets. I've relocated all my accesories wiring to those holes. Only got one wire remaining and it's the pain in the butt one, the 4ga amp power wire that been in the steering boot for 4 years.

Take the ground connection off the battery first. To access this area, remove the two bolts on the fender that mounts the fuse box to the fender. Takes an 8mm socket. Then it just sorta slides right out. May wanna take a 10mm to the front of it to remove the battery connection to the fuse box too to allow for more movement of the box up and out of the way. Confirm nothing is on the in-cab side of the engine bay/in-cab connectors...there's nothing on mine yours shouldn't be different.

You can get grommets sized just for one particular wire size....so if you just wanna run your 4ga or whatever, grab a grommet or a trim plastic bezel for 4ga, drill to size, run wire, attach grommet to body. No need for a big holes like mine, but I got tons of wires going in and out(4 lights, air compressor, 4 more lights, 2 more lights, etc).
