Exclamation Replacing the Head Unit in '86 Ford Ranger

Hey guys, I have a question about replacing the head unit in 1986 Ford Ranger. I have looked online and can't find information anywhere! How would I go about getting the unit out, because it's edges sit behind the wood grain trim piece meaning you can't just pull it out. How do I go about taking this piece off without breaking it? Thanks in advance!

I replaced the head unit in my 87. You have to remove the wood grain plate. It's really easy, there should be four screws along the top under the lip of the dash cover. Then pop of the center trim( the bar along the center of the dash where the ash try is) and under neath there there should be one screw on the left side of the steering column, and three acres on the right. Undo all the screws and it will just pull right off (you may have to Push it down a little to clear the dash cover lip). After you have your wood grain thing off, undo the four screws around the stereo and pull it all out as one unit. Then pull your old head unit out of the ring through the back and install your new head unit doing everything in reverse order. I can post some pics if you need them.

Thanks for the response deathtone65, I should have updated this thread, but after posting this I went out to the truck and took the wood grain plate off... I was able to loosen 6 screws to get it off and then the four holding the unit in, so I figured it out! Not too hard, I just wasn't sure at first if I had to remove the plate or not!! Thanks again!!
