I like surround sound. Guitar solos moving side to side, lead on the left, rhythm on the right, bass mostly in the back, vocalists singing side by side, drums are fairly centered but the cymbal crashes are definitely off center.
IMO, 4 speakers are required for good sound effects.

Now days most common name brand speakers will sound good as long as you have a good head unit on them and you dont try to over drive them. If you want speakers that have a good high end and some low end I agree with the Infinity Ks but if you keep the bass tuned down and don't try to Dj a beach party out of you truck any mid brand or better will be extremely better than stocks. Also I would invest in a good head unit before spending on good speakers with a junk head unit.

I've got 5 1/4" round Alpine type r front door speakers, they sound very good. For now I just changed the fronts, but I may change the rears by the end of the summer (5x7 type r's). I just set my head unit to play more out of the front, cause the alpines are quieter than the stocks and require the more power to get them loud.

I have Kicker door speakers all around and 2 rockford fosgate 12's and a pioneer head unit and it sounds amazing. Kicker door speakers are very high and crisp and the rockfords just pound.
