Default Factory stereo upgrade

I bought a '03 cd player from a better Ranger and will attempt to stab it in my '98Beater. So I just compare the wire colors in the first sticky and match function to function? I've done all kinds of stereo installs in the last 25 years but never factory to different plug factory.

It should just be plug and play. The 03 stereo should have different plugs so make sure you try that before cutting wires

Funny story, I was alone wandering some crazy dusty shelves of factory stereos and found the '03 Ranger mp3, no plugs. I whistled a nonchalant tune and snagged some plugs from another Ford radio not realizing it was totally different wires than the Ranger. So now I have almost figured out all the wiring but... there seems to be no reason for the smaller plug since everything seems to come out of the larger plug.
On the 98( wich has the 97 radio harness btw) one plug does power and such and the other has the speaker wires. The mystery harness has all those wires coming out of the big plug and I have no idea what to do with the smaller plug harness. I guess just hook it up like I'm thinking and see what if anything works?

Ok, Ok, everyone is dying to know, it did not work out and I'm not sure it was me. In my first pic is the wiring connected to my stock am/fm only deck. My guess is that is how the dealer slapped a deck-n-2 in my fleet truck. So that side was not difficult but the new radio side turned out to be maybe a Mustang? All the wires were there but maybe meant different things on different year? I had 12.3v going into the deck but it would not power up.

So to hell with it. It is a factory deck so who cares. I will take it back for junkyard credit only and in a few days my new deck-n-2 will arrive in the mail. Hopefully I haven't lost all my old install skills, should be like old times!
