Default Re: Mounting amp on back wall

I am putting a amp and Sub for my son in his 01 B3000. Does anyone know the alternator capacity of the 01? Also he was told to wire the amp directly to the battery, does sound sound right? We put a alpine head unit in a few weeks ago and he just bought a JVC KS-AR7501D Amp.
Just want to make sure the truck will handle the power requirments. Any help is appreciated.

I'm not sure of the alternator output. Yes you wire the amp directly to the battery, and it looks like that amp is 1200w RMS which is doable with stock stuff. I have 1500w RMS in my truck and I'm running 4 gauge power wire with stock alt and everythings good!

Yeah you should be fine, just make sure you put an inline fuse in the power cable like 4-8 inches from the battery.. It's no a "necessity" but it is definately worth the extra five minutes to save your sons amp if anything goofy were to happen..
It's also just smart in general..

I personally like the idea of mounting on the back wall. BUT, if you are putting a sizable box back there and are blocking the 'view' of it, I don't like it. I used to have mine like that. With this new setup, I did the amp on the floor behind the seat. Less wire usage, and the seats go all the way back because the box goes all the way to the wall, which would be blocked by a few inches with an amp on the wall.

All
Thanks for the replies. We took the 4 gauge wire thru the fire wall just above clutch pedal. There is a 3 inch patch of clear area there. Used a step drill bit 3/8 and then put a grommet in the hole. Made few more adjustments to the hole. The grommet was the bitch. Use dWD 40 so the wire guided thru the hole and grommet You have to move the fuse box but wasn't to hard. Ran the wire under the carpet to the back wall next to the fold down seat. Took the RCA cable the the other side and the remote also down the pass side of the car. Used the Seat mount for the ground. Took it to bare metal and mounted ground. I removed the back panel below the back window (Extended Cab) and made a 1 x 12 replacement piece. Covered it with carpet and mounted the amp to it. Look really nice. Had to make a modification after install for the rear seat drivers side. Now it can be used. Mounted the Sub in box behind the pass seat. All your replies are greatly appreciated. I will have my son take a few pictures and I will post. I am quite happy with the outcome. Looks really (SIC) as my sons says..

I also just have my amp laying on the hump, behind the seat. I've been looking for somewhere to mount my amp as well.

Okay, The best spot for a amp is under the passenger seat. It keeps it out of the way and it's not seen. I have installed at least 40 this way. No need to screw it in. Wont go anywhere.
