Question Head Unit Ground Locations?

I just got a new Alpine CDA-105 head unit. On the end of the ground wire there is somewhat of a ring terminal. Should I cut that off and splice it to the ground wire in my dash or should I ground it as it is? If I should ground it as it is then will I need to make my own bolt to ground on and where can I do it? I have a 93 and my ground wire is about a little over a foot.

Thanks

Not 100% sure, and I know someone will correct me, but I connected my alpine CDA-117 to the factory head unit ground and it works fine, so you should be able to do that. If not, find a bolt inside the dash that can have a bare metal contact for the ground.

Hmm yea I looked in my dash pretty well and I couldn't really find a place to ground it so I think I might just snip of the end and splice it to my harnesses ground....eh..

Just do whatever is easiest for you. WHether you ground it to the stock ground for the radio harness or ground it to a bolt somewhere, it will both work the same

You sure? Because the ground wire on my harness in my car is like a 18 or 20 gauge wire and the ground on the harness for my head unit is like 16.

It really won't matter. I have done a lot of head units when the AWG of the wires didn't match and they have all worked fine (including my own radio)

Okay I think cutting the end off and splicing will be easier. Thanks!

using the factory ground will be fine. It originates in a more isolated place than any metal inside the dash anyway.
