Exclamation Upgrading Audio System Need Help/Advice!

Alright, so i am looking to upgrade my audio system in my 1993 Reg Cab Ford Ranger XLT. Currently, I have a Kenwood KDC-MP342U Deck and Pioneer ts-g6842r speakers. I want to install and amp and two 10 inch subs. I am seriously interested in purchasing this kit from ebay http://compare.ebay.com/like/2207394...Types&var=sbar From the research i have done, this seems to be a good deal as far as getting the custom boxes, 8 Gauge wiring kit, amp, and two subs. A few of my questions are: What are the steps I need to take in order to install myself? Will this work? What all am I going to need to install? Is this a good buy? Is there anything I need to know before starting this project that i am unaware of? Any help or advice is greatly appreciated.

Kicker's are one of the top notch audio brands. I have two 10's in my truck and they slam hard.

While kickers are a good product, I have to say that I'm biased.. having been in the car audio business for awhile, I'm partial to alpine due to my experiences with them. I have one type r 10" in my truck and it slams harder than 3 kicker tens... excluding solobarics. Its all about how the box is tuned.

My two 10's are in a super bass pro box. It also depends on how you have your set-up.

Back on topic. That is a really good deal. Right size amp for the subs and right size wiring. For the installation it's not hard at all. Take the red wire and connect it to your positive terminal, run it into your cab. Pull out your head unit connect the RCA cables the the back. Run them through your dash. Then find a good grounding, I found mine under the carpet which is a nice solid connection. Plug your power wire into the amp then your ground. Connect the speaker wire you wont need your remote wire because that amp has a auto on function. Then you're set!

im not saying kicker is bad but comp is just the cheap junk they put out so any jackwagon that wants a sub can have one... i would step it up a bit spend the extra buck if you do it will
a.) last longer
b.) provide a better listening experience
c.) make your friends want some
d.) piss people off when you drive up with your subs bumpin
^^
favorite part

----------

and also dont listen to somebody if they try to sell you any other brand then the best... jl, alpine, and kicker have been doing it a long time it has quality efficeincy and output you'll want and expect to get when your spending that kind of money i have kicker amps and alpine type s door speakers and type r 15" sub and jl 6x9/alpine type s 6x9 and i would not change my system unless i swapped my jl's for another set of type s's

I love everything about it

Okay for the price, it's not bad. But if you are willing to buy off ebay and pay shipping, you might as well buy locally from Craigslist or UsedEverywhere.

People aren't buying stereo's anymore because the newer cars for the last 5-10 years have had average to good stereos in them. So prices have dropped HUGE on used systems. I got a full Boston Acoustic Pro series with 3x10" subs, 2x6" mids, 2x2" tweets and 2 alpine amps, wires and deck for $250 a couple years back.

I got a pair of Rockford Fosgate Pro series subs in a tuned box for $150. Those speakers new were $800 each and the box would have been another $600.

Think of it this way, When someone sells their old car that had a great stereo in it, they take the components out and sell them seperatly to try and get extra money or save them for the next car. But someone buying a car ususally doesn't care about the stereo.

Hit up pawn shops and CraigsList and UsedEverywhere and even swap and shops.

As for Kicker, it's crap. The heavy weight cone and big power requirement just to move the speaker results in fuzzy dirty sound coming off it. The only thing kicker can do is advertise and make loud single level bass noise. But if that's what you are after, go for it.

Prices have dropped because they can make the products for a cheaper cost and more people are buying them.

Those subs weren't $800 new and that box DEFINITELY not $600.

WTF? They just say "ahh fuck it. There's no stereo. It's cool, I'll just listen to the wind!"?

^Makes no sense. Kicker sucks because they use shitty plastic cones and sound like shit.

Kicker makes a good amp yes. But for the price, you can get better. It comes down to access, Price and what your end goal is.

As a general rule, buy the best amp you can because it will go with you from vehicle to vehicle. Alpine PDX are my personal favorite. No heat, Stackable, clearest sound I can afford and small enough to fit in a tight space. And they look pretty nice.

Old Alpine V12s go for about $200 and still hold up against todays competition. And you can get them used for $50 and up. NOTE: A lot of bootlegged V12s are out there. Check the serial number to make sure it's Japanese and not Mexican. Nothing against mexican amps, just not the same price or quality as Japan and have a tendency to blow if used hard.

As for the Rockford fosgate 10" subs I spoke of. They were $800 CDN back when they were new. They were the highest end Rockfords you could get and out performed a night club from outside. The manager actually came out to get the car they were in to go away or turn it down because the customers inside could hear it. And I'm not talking just bass volume, People inside could hear the lyrics from that little stereo... ahh memories. Boston Pro's all around with the Rockford subs. The box was tuned to perfection for a competition in clarity. That was like 15 years ago though. Note: That nightclub upgraded there whole system a month later because of that hehe.
