Weird Stereo Wires?
I bought this 93 Ranger from a kid and he didn't have a radio in it, so I bought a new Alpine stereo and I want to install it myself. However he did something to the wires and I'm kinda stuck on what to do. I will go to my local audio place and have them look at it when I have time but for now what do you think it is and how can I install my new head unit?
Here is a picture of the wires:
As you can see (Hopefully) the wires look like they all go into a connector and come out as one wire in 4 different places.

Re: Weird Stereo Wires?
He cut off the factory plug and put his own wires on it. As for what is what, impossible to say with that picture. You need to get a wiring color chart for your year/make/model vehicle. Then you can cut his wires off and re-splice the factory wires into the connector for the new stereo.
You're going to have a main power, an accessory switched power,, backlight power, ground, and two wires of similar color for each of the 4 speakers.
Edit, courtesy STL
1993:
Radio Battery Constant 12v+ Wire: Green/Yellow
Radio Accessory Switched 12v+ Wire: Yellow/Black
Radio Ground Wire: Chassis
Radio Illumination Wire: Blue/Red
Left Front Speaker Positive Wire (+): Orange/Green
Left Front Speaker Negative Wire (-): Black/White
Right Front Speaker Positive Wire (+): White/Green
Right Front Speaker Negative Wire (-): Black/White
Left Rear Speaker Positive Wire (+): Pink/Green
Left Rear Speaker Negative Wire (-): Pink/Blue
Right Rear Speaker Positive Wire (+): Pink/Blue
Right Rear Speaker Negative Wire (-): Green/Orange

Re: Weird Stereo Wires?
I can't see anything in the picture. How about you just regard everything as extension wires, cut 'em of and start from square one.
STL put this up a while back:
Radio wiring colors

Re: Weird Stereo Wires?
I suggest going to your local walk-through salvage yard and pulling a harness, and as above, disregard the ghetto wires.
