Default Suggestions for Audio System

Hey yall!

I'm in the process of getting all the add-ons for my Ranger (info in signature). It's a 4x2 commuting truck, so i'm focusing mainly on comfort and convenience rather than lift-kits and what-not. But anyway, one thing that I eventually want to do is get a nice sound system that won't break the bank. Does anyone have any good suggestions? I love music, particularly alternative, rock, metal, and some country, if that makes a difference.... Any help would be much appreciated!

Welcome to FRF Chris! A nice system depends on how much you want to spend and what you are looking for in the system. Do you want one sub woofer system or two? What you should get (in my opinion) is a nice 12 inch single subwoofer with an amplifier; personally, I go with Pioneer. From there, you will need to get a amplifier for that subwoofer which would be a Class D monoblock amp (for one subwoofer) or if you want to go with two subwoofers, get a 2 channel amplifier. Alpine, Kicker, Kenwood, and much more sells some nice subwoofers for a decent price. Try looking at bestbuy or maybe crutchfield.com and you should find something good. Hope this helped. Good luck.

If your into rock and the sorts, I would suggest 2 10" DVC 4ohm. I like kenwood amps myself. For brand of sub, I like the kicker comp CVR. they are very well constructed. Aluminum cone, rubber surround instead of foam, it is glued and stitched to the cone, vs just glued. 12" really are not matched for rock type music, its a long hard hitting bass that suites rap better. 10"s well deliver the quick hit bass that rock has to offer. And im not saying this just because its what I have, I have had all kinds of subs, amp, boxes. All which has gave me alot of xp. Out of all the subs I have had, rockford, pioneer, JBL, audiobahn, lightning audio (i know). The kickers are by far the best. Amps, Ive had pioneer, lanzar, rockford, jenson, kicker and kenwood. Again, the kenwood proove to be the best amp.

But its all in what your after and how much you want to spend on these things. I would look for DVC 4ohm subs that can be wire for 10hm, and a good 1 ohm STABLE amp, if you just want to power the subs, get a class D. The kenwood I have also has a fan which I thought was nice.

Stay away from capacitors, they just offer visual stimulant Do the big 3 upgrade fo sho!!

Wow! Thanks for all the advice yall. I've deff got something to work with now. I love music, so I really want to make sure I get something good, especially considering all the driving I do. Thanks again, and any other advice would be greatly appreciated.

Oh, and how difficult would yall say it is to install all this stuff? I used to do commercial and residential telecommunications, so I know a lot about the actual wiring and stuff, just not sure about installing in a vehicle instead of a building lol!

LOL thanks. I love Taylor Swift. She inspires me! But it's not that difficult to install one. Simple hook the subs up to some wire. Connect wire to the amp. Then make a connection from the amp to a remote switch using some more wires. And then run the power wire to either the battery terminal or the distributor box under the hood. Ground it and your done!

*sigh* Haha I'm not going to nit-pick this thread so I'll just throw in some helpful advice, don't listen to the above advice haha. First off, how much are you looking to spend? The first item of any system needs to be a good headunit. Do you want something that you can watch movies and whatnot on? Or do you just want something basic? By the way, 12's handle rock just fine. Also, Kicker isn't the best. Nowhere near it. Just because their surrounds are stitched doesn't mean anything. And just because they're rubber surrounds instead of foam doesn't mean anything either. Almost any high-end sub you will see will have a glued, foam surround. Are you willing to give up the back of your cab? If so, you could do 2 subs behind each seat. If not, you could do a single sub behind the drivers seat instead.

Well, I'd like to keep it under a Grand. Wanted something that could play movies also. And I don't think I'd want to give up the WHOLE back of the cab, as i need enough room in the back to put a kennel for my dog if I travel w/ my wife...

DUDE! The guy ASKED for suggestions, folks here are posting THEIR suggestions! If I think that the kickers are the best, thats my opinion!!! and my suggestion!!!

And in MY opinion, the rubber stitched and glued suurounds provides QUALITY and DURABILITY!!! Almost every FOAM surround I have seen will FAIL or has FAILED!!!

Why is it that on this forum certain folks think they are "GODS" in a certain field....? IT IS MY OPINION, AS THE OP ASKED FOR SUGGESTION!!!!

Why is it that people get so upset so easily? I was just giving my opinion I don't act like I'm a god at audio, I just talk about what I know. And if I know more about audio then you, then I'm going to let others know what advice is wrong, and what is right. OP, PM me and I'll help you find some deals. I know where you can get a really nice headunit right now for $225.
