Want a sub box design or just buy one.
Hey everyone. I'm looking to either make a subwoofer box or just simply buy one. I don't have the skills to make a box myself but a lot of people say it's easy. But I don't even know where to begin my search for parts that I would need.
But anyways, I have two 12 inch Pioneers right now with a 500 watt amp I believe. I'm looking to get or make a box that will either fit one or two of my speakers but here's the thing, I want the box to only take up the passenger back space. I want the back of the driver side to be fully cleared in case I need to fit a person (or kid) back there or some luggage when I go off on vacation this May/June.
So with any help I would really appreciate it. I did have some people helping me with some designs and I had another thread just like this but this one is more descriptive. That and I lost the designs lol.
Thanks,
Jordan

Re: Want a sub box design or just buy one.
If i was you id want the box to be behind the drivers seat and not the passengers seat. That way you wont have to hug the steering wheel if someone were to be sitting behind you. and for the few instances that someone rides in the back seat and behind the passenger they can slide the seat up a little bit and both can be comfortable and you would never have to move your seat.

Re: Want a sub box design or just buy one.
I am working on a box right now that will fit right behind the driver seat made for 2 12's that will still be able to seat someone across on the passenger side. Planning on doing a loose fit here soon to see what else needs to be done
I'm not sure if you can buy one that will fit like you want
Making one is not hard if you have any knowledge of wood tools

I took carpentry in high school so I should be good lol. If you wouldn't mind helping me out with that design or take a few pictures of it, I would gladly appreciate it. Reason why I want the box to be over on the passenger side is because it's easier on my part to put stuff in and out from the driver side then to go over to the passenger side haha. Thanks Jake!

Re: Want a sub box design or just buy one.
(Don't pay to much attention to the crappy caulk job I decided to extend the box after having cut all the main pieces.)
The box is 15(1/2) x 15 x 27
so as long as i did my math right it is about 3.6 cubic ft
ported to around 40 hz
Also for the convenience of many it is multi directional it can be put in most any position laying down or standing up

Good lord! I think that's bigger than what I have now lol. I want something that doesn't even reach half way of the passenger back seat you know what I'm saying?

Re: Want a sub box design or just buy one.
If you lay it flat it only reaches partly into the other side by maybe a few inches
I made it to sit just below the rear window so my bad on picture angle
i dont really know any other way to fit to 12's in that space unless you put them back to back kinda like isobaric

Yeah or I can just fit one and just have another sub as an extra or for a back up or maybe for sale lol. I just want some space back there.

Re: Want a sub box design or just buy one.
that would definitely take half of the enclosure space.

check out my box, i have it behind the drivers seat but you can easily change the build a little to make one fit behind the passanger seat. one sub faces the back of the seat, the other points towards the open space behind the passangers seat on mine. it also makes a kind of shelf to store stuff above it too, i keep my jacket and shoes and anything i need to on top of it - take a look.
if you're intrested in making one like this, i can give you exact measuremeants to build one, i can walk you through it the whole way.
making a box is very easy and cheap. it also allows you to spend some quality time with your truck.

btw, yours might not even need to be this big, different subs need different amounts of cubic feet. mine needed 2 cubic feet per sub, which is why the box is so big. check the pioneer website and it will tell you exactly how much cubic feet each sub needs....

if you want to have two subs, they need their space, otherwise they wont sound good at all. its very important to have correct or close to correct cubic feet according to your make and model sub's specifications, every model and brand is diffrent.
whenever im building or making something, i ALWAYS keep this in mind "If your going to do it, take the extra time and effort to do it right." So you dont have to fix it later...

Excuse me yes you hi. Um, I LOVE THAT DESIGN! lol. The way the subs face, that is sick! I would love to have something like that yet a tad bit lower in height over on the passenger side. But I don't think I would be able to get something like that done before this up coming car show I'll be going to so.... if only you were closer to MD haha

Re: Want a sub box design or just buy one.
i say put it behind the passanger seat, for many reasons.
more likely have a better response to the target listening point. if you need to put something in the back you only have to open the driver side door. and if the box is a lil big you can still put your seat back all the way .
