Default CB radio power wire hookup?

hey everyone, i bought myself a cobra 19 ultra III CB radio about a month ago, and im trying to figure out how im gonna run the power wire.

does anyone know if there is a ciggarette lighter adapter that can be purchased to use with a CB radio?

or if not, where would everyone reccomend running the power wire? i was leaning towards the fuse block inside the drivers side of the dash, to avoid having to go through the firewall or pull my carpet to find a plug in the floor.

the truck is an '00 XLT regular cab, BTW.

thanks for any input

You should run it straight to the battery with an in-line fuse. That's the best way to do it. Just run it through your firewall, its not that big of a deal at all. And also, you're going to have to run your antenna wire somewhere too. Hopefully you got a good quality antenna.

And to find the grommet in the floor, you don't have to pull your whole carpet. You just take the passenger side floor mat up, pry up on the bottom trim piece, and pull it out from that. By doing this you have easy access to the grommet.

I'd run power from the battery to a relay that's signaled by switched power.
that way you'll never have to worry about leaving it on when your truck isn't running.
Yeah I know that sounds complicated but it isn't. If I can do this stuff anyone can. Besides you'll thank yourself in the long run when you can look at your CB as an asset rather than an "oh shit did I leave it on" liability.

which bottom trim pice would have to come up, the kick panel or the one on the doorsill? if it's just the kickpanel how does it come off, just clips?

if it's that easy to run down through the floor i'll probibly run both the antenna & power wire down through and to their respective locations... the radio already has an in line fuse, and eventually i'll run it to a key- on power scorce, but for now it'll probibly go to the battery 'caus i wanna see how it'll work

as for the antenna right now i've got a junk magnate mount that i've had laying around, but i've also got a fiberglass 3' firestick antenna that a friend gave me that i plan on mounting eventually.

ANy suggestions for a good switch on wire to tap into? Im in the same boat as him and so far ive got suggestions for the ingnition starter wire, are there any other wires that would be easy to tap into? Someone should make a "how-to" on how to do this.

just run it out the fire wall and use a in-line fuse,if u have a sub run your antenna coax cable on the other side or youll pick up engine noise. by the way i have a galaxy 959 and a wilson 5000 mag. mount antenna.
