Exclamation 1989 Ranger xlt headunit wiring help

so my boss gave me one of the panasonic weather band cd players out of one of the semi's we're junking at the shop. i have installed car audio for a long time, but wiring aftermarket radios for use with stock wiring has always been an issue with me with fords. first off, no, i do not have a wiring adapter and i do not plan on buying one when i don't HAVE to spend the money and it can be done safely without it.

the aftermarket radio color codes are:
red-switch, acc
yellow-constant 12+

okay, so here are my symptoms:

per wiring color codes in this forum, i have the yellow/black wired to the switch

the black wired to the black on the radio

and the lt. green/yellow wired to the yellow

i get nothing when i turn the key on, and my factory radio tape player worked other than the display being faded out(unreadable)

so any ideas as to what is causing the problem? the battery was disconnected at the time, and the fuse in the back of the aftermarket radio is good. thanks ahead!!
