Re: Good shallow mount sub??
i have an alpine type r shallow they go for about 240 brand new on ebay, a little pricey but...i think its the best on the maket with the highest watage rating...i had a mtx shallow mount for a year and the ruber ring around the cone riped all the way around. i'm not saying stay away from mtx but....i will never get one again.

Re: Good shallow mount sub??
I picked up a couple of kenwood ws12s(think that's what they're called) for 149 each brand new. They only handle 350w rms apiece but its alright for a ranger. Crutchfields giving away free shallow mount enclosures when you buy them too.

Re: Good shallow mount sub??
Not a 12 but these are some of the best shallow mounts around IMO. You HAVE to build or have someone build a box though otherwise they will sound horrible. Told my buddy to buy them and he put them in a pre fab and the were nasty sounding. 2 of these in a properly designed box would be sex

Re: Good shallow mount sub??
you can get alpine s type dvc subs at onlinecarstereo.com for 69 dollars and they pound hard .
they come in 4+4 ohm and 2+2 ohm only 900 watt peak though so no million watt amps or will blow
----------
they also come in 10 and 12 in

Re: Good shallow mount sub??
there's also the power acoustik 10" comp shallow mount, and for 80 bucks on sonic electronix u can't really beat that price, i had 2 on a power acoustic 2200 watt amp and pushed 130 untuned

Re: Good shallow mount sub??
shallow mount subs are garbage dont ever buy one... they dont have the same control as a regular sub and cost way too much for what they are....
just buy a regular sub ment for a small box and get a box built that saves space

Really? Care to elaborate? My shallow sub sounds better than my fullsize which barely fit in my box. And fitting in a box is hard to do in a single cab.

In this case, your full size sub most likely did not have enough airspace and with the shallower sub you have a lot less displasement so it sounded better. I kind of agree though. Shallow mount subs do have the best sound compared to a full size but can still sound great when properly tuned and setup.
