Question anybody have good knowledge with CB radios?

Alright I have my Cobra cb radio hooked up in my truck with 2 4 foot whips, and a 9 foot coax cord..

I do not get reception at all, Could it be I just have to much coax cord in my truck?

I'm not too sure what the problem is. The coax cord is just hooked up to 1 whip too.

Huh? You just said you have two antennas with a 9ft coax but the coax is only hooked up to one? So the other one is just for show?

- If you turn the squelch all the way down, do you hear static?

- Are you sure you installed the antenna and radio ends of the coax correctly?

- Its possible there is nobody around to talk to.

- You do NOT have too much coax. That's perfectly fine, in fact thats better than most people's coiled up 18ft.

no one to talk to? Hmmm, well I tried to get on my friends ch. And I can't here them. And they can't hear me.

Well the most common problem is incorrect or faulty connectors on the ends of the coax, or the antenna base connector is done wrong. Do you have a multi-meter (volts, ohms, etc)?

If even a micron of that braided shield is touching the center conductor, it will shut your ass down. That is common cause of problems at the connector.

Hey I gotta question for ya too, Matt.
My radio likes to fade in and out sometimes, I have a Cobra DX19 with 12 ft of cable (i think) and a 4.5 foot fiberglass whip on a quick disconnecrt, i recently suppled the bracket with a ground, havent been able to test it yet. what you think could be wrong?

Well antenna and coax connector problems usually result all or nothing. Fading in and out, usually the radio is a POS or the person your talking to has a POS radio.
