Default Removing Rear Door Panels?

I'm going to be taking off my door panels to install some new speakers and I'm a little confused on removing the rear door panels. I have an extended cab with 4 doors. My understanding is that to remove the panel I just pull, does it matter which way I pull? Am I just pulling directly away from the door, or should I be pulling in a particular direction (left, right, etc.)?

Also, are these the right kind of tabs holding in the panel? I was thinking of picking up a few in case I break some, autozone has 15 of these for $4.

Just pull up and toward you

Those are similar to the ones in there.

I found a easy way to get it back on take those pins out and put on the panel then install it back on there. If you don't you will never get it right.

A panel remover tool helps quite a bit, too. You don't even have to remove the seat belt completely, just the top. But it's pretty much just a matter of yanking it off. STL is right about the clips. Odd are quite a few of them will remain stuck in the door when you pull the panel off. Pull them out of the door and stick them back in the panel before you try to put the panel back on. If you don't have all the clips back in, the panel will rattle BIG TIME if your speaker produces any bass whatsoever.

Why would you pull up? Pull the panel straight towards you and it'll come right off

Even though this thread is 2 years old I will help its a 9/16s bolt at the top and a T50 bit at the bottom and you don't have to pull the bottom off but pulling the top off helps

You dont have to take the seatbelts off, you can actually hang the panel with the belt itself.

Tom, this is one of those situations where, if you feel like you're going to break it.... you're doing it right. just pull, no panel tool required. if you absolutely feel the need to, stl's fork method works.

CAUTION

When cold the little clips holding the panel have great strength and grip and the panel is VERY brittle.

If you try to "just pull it off" as is the popular suggestion and it is cold when you do it... you will snap the mounting points off the panel leaving the clip and the mounting point in the door

Ask me how I know... Work in a warm environment and use automotive trim tools to make it a safe job.
