Default Choosing an aftermarket headunit

I have searched on here looking at different threads about headunits and was wondering if any of you guys could give me some advice. For under $150 whats going to be a good headunit? If a headunit under $150 will sound better than the stock headunit?

Bassically are Alpine, JVC, Clarion, Pioneer, and Kenwood all about the same besides looks? I understand some might have more features on different models but as far as quality or any advantages.

Going to my amp for bass would a 1 male to 2 female rca connector work if the radio only has 1 sub output?
(I also need 2 rca's going to my amp for high's)

for under $150 is 2 volt about the highest preamp RCA outputs? Or are there and 3 or 4 volts? from my searching 2 volts seem's about what most are??

And if you like to through in any other information or adive it would greatly be appreciated. Sorry if any of these questions sound noobish or if there are too many, I'm just trying to clarrify before spending the money on one. I also don't need bluetooth, HD radio, or Ipod. I mostly listen to CD's. Thanks,

If you mostly listen to CD's, they have a deal I saw over at walmart for I think 80 bucks and it comes with 4- 6 1/2'' Pioneer speakers and a nice looking basic head unit: http://www.walmart.com/ip/Pioneer-Co...akers/15140328

All the specs are there so take a look at it. Hell if I didn't like double dins, I would get this. For the price you can beat it and Pioneer is a good brand. Only brand that I will use in my truck or in any vehicle I would have

Thanks for all the quick responses. As far as the USB works if I had songs on a flashdrive and plugged it in would it work? Or is that more like for ipod or something?

I have a USB port on mine.

I use a flash drive. I just plug it in and it automatically switches sources. From FM to USB.
I can keep it plugged in and change the source back to FM

When I was shopping for a new radio. I noticed 1 thing that the majority of radios now do not have cd players. They are USb/flash drive type.

Is the flashdrive better sound quality or just holds more songs? It seems that would be much easier adding new songs from your computer and friends computers instead of burning and erasing CD's over and over.

Do you guys use the Ipod, flashdrive, CD's, or what the most? Which has better sound quality and is louder? I found a thread somewhere on google where somebody did a test with microphones or something saying CD's had better quality and was louder than the Ipod but I don't know what radio he had or how he tested it.

And would a $150 Alpine be any better than a $100 Alpine or is it more in the extra functions or looks and stuff?

Thanks.

CD's in my opinion produce better sound quality but Ipod abd flashdrives are the same. I have a double din Pioneer and it's awesome with the sound. Just make sure you upgrade your speakers from stock to whatever you want like Alpine or Sony or Pioneer etc. The 150 price would be better than the 100 just because of more features added to it compared to what the 100 unit. Say the 150 has HD and bluetooth built in while the 100 unit does not.

Thanks, isn't there a way of burning the songs differently onto a CD so it can hold more or something? I know how to do it but I dont remember what its called or if it sounds better or just holds more songs on the CD?

Depends on the CD and how much space it has on it. You can easily burn music onto blank CD's using Windows Media player or what I use it Nero Multimedia 10; but that's a bit pricey in stores (got mine for a discount through upgrade) so you can get Nero Burn express for 30 bucks or just stick with Windows Media Player which is free
