You may be thinking about formats versus audio/data. If you get a head unit that can read/play mp3, you can burn way more songs on one CD versus burning standard audio (wave) format. That is how the iPods and other mp3 players get so many songs on such a small device. And as mentioned... a standard CD will yield a higher sound quality because of the compression to the CD. New technology is way cooler than when this old man was a burner in the day of FREE Napster.

I think when you are looking in your price range, you are going to find more bang for the buck with Pioneer. If you get on a bit higher level... Alpine is my choice. I sport a Alpine CDA 9887 with iPod extension. It is a older model, but it still okay for me...reads all formats. I like that it has RCAs for Front, Back, and Subs. Again, this is an older model so it doesn't have the usb front port.

That's a nice looking deck! Can you change the background color? And I think he wants something with the front USB but still good looking unit.

Yup, the background color has like 6 different settings (I think...I know for sure 4). USB fronts are almost a given with the newer models.... I have had this unit for a few years (in different vehicles). It still sounds and works like just off the show room!

The Pioneer SuperTuners have been around forever. They are great units... probably the best in the "bang for the buck" class. I just think when you get on the higher line Pioneers like flip out screens and such, they seem to drop off the bang but add the bucks.

Yeah and no. I got my double din priced at 230 and included everything! I went to walmart for some oil and cleaning supplies and found out they were selling the same exact head unit that I have for 400! I shook my head and laughed at the people who were buying it lol. And this unit has everything except for bluetooth and GPS which I really don't need since I already have a GPS and soon to have a bluetooth headset

Sweet. I installed a single din flip out Pioneer (AVIC series) in a Monaco Motorhome about a year or so ago. Customer called having all kinds of problems. Pioneer warrantied the head, but instead of just replacing it we had to ship it overseas for repair. Took about a month to get it back, but it has been working fine ever since.

I think reason for the oversea shipping is because there main company is oversea in Asia.

as far a rca preouts go there is a tremendous difference between say 1.8 to 2 volt basic on alot of head units to a say 3-6.5 volt you will get way more response out of your subwoofer i got an 800 dollar pioneer premier off of ebay for 100 buck 6.5 volt preouts and it work flawlessly and made a ginormous difference in music quality and bass

but the sad thing is the CD-RW in my truck right now only has 6 songs on it, I have a problem of putting a few songs on a test cd to see how they sound then I like those 6 songs better than my 20 older songs on the previous cd. But hopefully with more storage space I'll put alot of songs and different folders and use the new headunit to its full potential.

Then put the folders with songs into the DVD-RW's and that should work wonders

Thanks for all the help. I orderred the one from radioshack last night so when I get it in I'l post some pics. I dont remember which one (the wiring harness or the piece that turns my double din into a single din) but one of them at the Discount Auto store I went to said something like 1993-2006 Ranger Mine is a 2007 but as should both those items be the same from a 2006 to a 2007? The worker didn't know and made it sound like it wouldn't fit but I cant see that much changed? I could be wrong though any advice on that? I might just go to Walmart and see if they have the wiring harness and install kit.

Wally World carries them most all the time. My kit looked like the picture from DrIftKi7Vg's link. Here are the part numbers:
