Just purchased an XL super cab and would like to upgrade the sound system. I would like to purchase a used system but am not sure how to tell which systems are compatible. Any advise is appreciated.

you can buy any speakers you want as long as they fit. the speaker size stock is 5x8 i think

Yeah my main concern is finding a compatable head unit that can be swapped out no problem. Thanks for the input tho Ill keep my eyes out for some 5x8's

just get a single din head unit, then go to a stereo place and get the adapter, its not very hard to install, and it gives you a little extra bay to put things.

Stock speakers are 6x8's. You can look on Craigslist and Ebay to find a headunit. Pretty much any headunit you want, will fit. You can just go to Wal-Mart and get the install kit. You might not be able to find the wiring harness there though. If they don't have it, you can order it off Ebay or something for pretty cheap. Also, 5x7's will fit with no problems.
