Default Speaker Recommendations....

I need some help. I have some severe high frequency hearing loss. So, voices and the like are tough for me to distinguish......sometimes even one on one inside the cab of my truck with road noise (even though my truck is really quite) in the background. I want to upgrade my speakers. Mine is a super cab 2 door without the Pioneer system. I know speakers are the most important part and that's all I really want to upgrade. Not really lookin for big bass but more for high frequency response. I have read that three way speakers are better than two ways. Is that right? Also.....I am on a fixed income with disability, so budget is a concern. I saw some Kenwood 3 ways on Ebay for like 82 bucks for FOUR with free shipping. does Kenwood still make a good product? I know they used to. My hearing loss is only one of a mile long list of symptoms from a practical joke played on me at work years ago that left me permanently disabled. Any help is greatly appreciated.

The 3 way give high-mid-low range, if your really not concerned about bass then a good 2 way would be fine, I think it would have high-mid range.

I have pioneer 5x7's in my lifted truck and they can really put out some high frequency stuff, the polks I pick up today and installed are just a step above average.

I would rate the pioneers 1st and the polks 2nd, not sure about kenwood, have not ever use them.

3 ways are good as they put out both high-medium-low frequencys, but if your just looking for high i would actually look for 4way speakers as they have 2 sets of high plus medium and low frequencys so they will put out much better quality. Kenwood still makes some good stuff im actually running a set of kenwood 3ways in my truck and you can get some good sound from them just make sure they fit as mine have magnets that are a bit to large and hit the back of the truck

3 way or component speakers would be the best route to take.. if you decide to go 3 way, you'll be impressed with the high's on kicker 6x8's. if you decide to go component's... alpine, polk, infinity or pioneer are all good brands.

out of curiosity, what are the details of the practical joke that damaged your hearing?

I have 6x8-5x7 Kicker DS680's in my truck and they sound good. They're not too pricey either.
I think I have 47$ for them from crutchfield.

memphis power reference separates.. excellent highs on them. I only wish they had db adjustment on the crossover but for the price they work. There in my girlfriend's car and sound awesome

The infinity's are great but expensive kickers wouldn't be to bad for a fixed income its a good price on them.

I have had a bunch of speakers for 5x7

Infinity
Memphis
Kicker
Pioneer

Other brands are no go imo
